Question about Husqvarna "Chain Saw - 16" Bar, 3 Hp

Husqvarna Model 61 Runs for 10-15 minutes then dies

Now, on to my problem. I have a Model 61 Husqvarna chainsaw. The saw starts and runs good for about 15 minutes and then it will just die. It will start back up but the performance is terrible and it stalls out after a few seconds. I have cleaned out the screen on the exhaust, replaced the fuel filter, spark plug, and put new gas in. None of these fixed the problem.

Are there any other areas that I should look at?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, the saw still has lots of life and I would hate to get rid of it.

Yeah, same problem..found disintegrated fuel line that connects to the unit betwwen the carb and the cylinder. I'll know for sure in a couple days as soon as I figure out how to compress the ring on the piston and fit it to the cylinder, I'll be back in business.

I took mine to the shop, got it back ($50!) said the gas was bad. Did the same thing, looked here, checked the gas gap and sure enough the vent hole was plugged. Works great now.

Sounds like to me that you may have a coil problem. I think it's running just long enough for it to run hot, then it screws up the electronics in the module. This module has a low rev side and a high rev side. Sometimes one or the other screws up.

I don't think it's the carburetor due to the fact that if there was a carb problem the engine wouldn't fire up so easily and it sure wouldn't run for 15 minutes before letting you know you have a problem. Either a carb runs well or it doesn't no such thing as good sometimes and bad at other times.

Again, have the coil checked.

Good luck

Husqvarna 345 chainsaw cuts off when hot

It sounds like it may be getting lean at that point, and it could be something like a tank vent. When this happens, open the filler cap, close it, and see if the saw will start.

Another easy test is to fill the tank completely in the event that a small hole has formed in the fuel line inside the tank. I doubt that is the problem, but worth the time to check before moving on to other tests.

If that doesn't work, disassemble the carburetor and clean all passages with non flammable brake cleaner (carburetor cleaner can damage check valves and soft small engine components). Sometimes dirt can accumulate in places that affect how the diaphragm moves.

If none of this works, have a service shop evaluate the unit. Pressure and vacuum tests will reveal the culprit(s) and determine if the saw qualifies for service.

Chainsaw cranks and runs but after minute or two it dies. will start again but dies when trying to throttle up

Check the fuel tank vent. Does the saw leak fuel when laying on its side.? Faulty vent can cause the saw to bog down when running

Chainsaw stops running

When it starts to die slacken off the fuel cap enough to allow air into the tank, if it picks up again it is an issue with the fuel tank breather, if the breather is blocked it will create a vacume in the tank and stop fuel flow to the carb.

Hi, from what you have written I believe you have a faulty cdi unit. Carbys don't generally run perfectly intermittently. To test the cdi theory, close the sparkplug gap to approximately half normal gap. If the saw runs fine you have a faulty cdi, shorting ht lead or stop wire. Regards Phil.

Saw runs fine for about 15 minutes, then the idle speeds up,then it dies, almost like it is flooding

Do aclean or overhaul of all fuel components.Change the spark plug or the coil aka=spark plug cable. But if your saw in lees the 2 yrs you need to follow the starting guide in order to avoid flooding.

Husq 350 runs with gas cap off but bogs and dies with cap tight

your gas cap is bad, it's not letting the air replace the fuel that is being sucked out. there for creating a vaccuum..... buy a new cap.

Husky 455 dies out at full throttle or under load

Your carb may be the issue but your ignition coil could be the culprit. Once they start going bad, they can act up intermittently or give various symptoms from day to day. The fact that your saw dies at full load or under load, probably means that when your saw gets hot or requires more spark, your coil is not able to provide it. Your carb is easy enough to clean out, you can take it all apart and clean all screens, etc....

I just replaced my coil due to the exact same symptoms and now my saw runs great. $60 off ebay and you can put it on in 15 minutes yourself. Check your carb first though

Is it your chain saw Husqvarna 40?

Try carb adjustments H-3/4 turn ,L-2 turns and T a little higher
I presume that compression and ignition sistem is adequate for the engine to run.Good luck
