When you click on my computer on your desktop icon. And you can pick the various drives contained in the machine, you are probablly looking at the D or E driveon possiblly F, being that vista uses the C drive as the place to store your system files in case of a crash. But if you select the drive that shows the eject, command, it should open or close the door of the drive. If it is not doing that then we either need a device driver for that drive. Or if it is not responding to any commands, go into the device manager and uninstall it then reboot. if after this still nothing, then just replace the drive, you can get a new one that't a 26 0r 28x drive for abot twenty to thirty dollars. Since a tech get's onefifty an hour it's just not worth your time and money to fix a possibly burned out part that is that cheap. I hope this helps you find which it is, if it got fied there is no more to do for that kind of price difference, just pick up the latest model, and consider it an upgrade

Make sure you inserting the disc in correctly, and make sure your drive reads that type of disc.

Hitachi ax-m71 cd door won't stay closed. Unable

if it opens back up when you close it the drawer mechanism is probably out of alignment. Most players have a slot on the bottom of the drawer that a pin must slide in. Look under the drawer and see if there is a pin sticking up that maybe should be in that slot.

CD drive won't close

If the CD tray won't close then it's probably a mechanical issue with the drive and needs to be replaced.

The cd drawer won't stay closed

the cd drawer will probably use infra-red to sense when the drawer is open or closed or maybe just a gear mechanism, either way these must be clean, I'd take it apart and lean it all with cotton buds and isopropyl alcohol

Cd draw opens on power up and won't play a cd keeps opening after closing

This unit needs replaced it has seen better days sorry. The only thing you can try is shut off all power to the PC then unplug the PC and that cd drive from the rear of it. let the PC boot all the way up so you see your desk top. Shut it all the way down un plug PC hook back up the wires on the back of the CD player let it boot back up see if this stops it.Remember to rate my solution this is how i earn my achievements also testimonial Thanks much in advance.

My Dell Inspiron CD Drive Won't Stay Shut

Wow. Power off the laptop then turn it over. Look for the one screw that holds the cd drive. It will have a circular icon on it. Remove the screw and then pull the cd drive out. Then put it back in and replace the screw. Hopefully all it needed was to be reseated.

Door won't stay closed

There may be something stuck inside the drive. If you feel you have sufficient skill, I would remove the drive and shake it around to see if you can get something to fall out. Other wise replace it with a new drive or take it to a repair shop.

My cd/dvd opens then closes

> I've already replaced it once

Well, I've seen CD-drives that would re-open, when you try to close them -- it is _falsely_ detecting a "jam" as the tray is closing, and then just re-opens the tray, rather than "forcing" itself to close.

Replacing the CD-drive is the only way to fix that type of "false-positive" jam-detection conditions.

But, since you've done that, either you were unlucky-enough that the replacement drive was also "defective", or, you have a computer-virus on your computer that is maliciously issuing commands to the CD to "open-the-tray".
