Question about Husqvarna Garden

2 Answers

Husqvarna chainsaw model 359 will not restart after refuel and bar+chain oil refill. Prior to the refuel it was starting within a few pulls. I was bucking a felled pine tree(36'' dia) and saw was running great. With or w/o choke, no sign that it wants to start when pulled. The fuel mixture is correct as it is the same fuel used yesterday and earlier today and saw ran fine (burned through two refills). Have not pulled and checked spark plug. How is the plastic housing removed, never have removed it and unsure how the fasteners work and don't want to break them forcing them off. This is my brother's saw and want to return it to him in working order besides finishing the cutting job. Thinking it might be a problem with the ignition coil or spark plug? If ignition please advise on how to check. Your help is greatly appreciated!!

Make sure you use the highest octane unleaded fuel you can buy. Make sure your mixture is exactly as prescribed, even the slightest deviation can be a problem. My Husgavarna 359 had the problem just like yours when it was new, new. I would have to take the spark plug out and let it dry out or blow it out with air. It would then run like a top.

Dealer looked at piston by removing muffler and found bad scoring, it was very easy to see the damage.
Prognosis: chainsaw is junk. Cost to rebuild top end and replace seals on bottom end provided there is no further damage is approx. $275 - $350 in parts + labor = > $400 total repair cost. Dealer stated the probable cause was saw got to hot and/or bad fuel mix above and beyond years of heavy use. Not worth repairing due to age of saw > 8 yrs old and unknown condition of bottom end. I am replacing the saw with a new Rancher 460 with 20" bar.
Sigh.....sure didn't need this expense!!

What bar and chain for a 359 chainsaw husky

Depends on what lenght you want, as standard it runs a .325 pitch, 058 gauge chain, bar lenghts are available in 13,15,18,20", you can convert them to a 3/8 pitch chain by changing the the rim, or changing the complete sprocket and oil pump drive gear.

Saw runs great, however when cutting;the kerf goes to the left.Replaced the chain recently and it cut fine for a few cuts then started the same problem. Could it be the bar grove is worn and needs...

You probably have a warped bar. Remove side cover and chain, then remove and reverse bar ( move the top to the bottom ) . Pour bar and chain oil on the tip of your bar and spin gear inside with a flat screwdriver to allow oil total penetration. re - install chain and side cover, adjust chain and tighten cover.Make sure you keep the oil reservoir full - refill everytime you add fuel. When it starts cutting crooked just reverse the bar again.

You are correct. Too high a fuel to oil ratio will not asallow the engine to run. Try using a fresh mixture of the correct ratio. It may take a lot of pulls on the starter until the old fuel is purged from the carby.

Chain for 24

Oregon Bar & Chain Selector
http://www.oregonchain.com/pro/lookups/selguide.aspx?BusId=OCS&SellReg=USA&LangId=ENG
Select "Husqvarna; 455; 24"; All; All; All" and make your choice. A couple of things to consider, it only returns 3/8 pitch chain, 0.325 is also available. I ordered a 24" bar for my 359, a Carlton that only takes 81 drive links (82 is normal). I saved $20 by ordering that bar, I just have to be careful when ordering chain. I prefer Stihl chain to Oregon. My Husky is maintained by Stihl mechanics and gets Stihl 2-cycle oil; please do not tell her, she may never run for me again. LOL

How to adjust chain and bar oiler flow on a jonsered 49 sp chainsaw

The chain should be adjusted so that the chain can be pulled by hand fairly easily, but doesn't droop from the bar underneath. Oil flow should be set so that a running engine (chain moving fairly fast) will send a thin line of oil off of the tip of the bar (onto a piece of cardboard) with a few moments of running. Hope this helps!

Bar oil leaks when saw not in use

What you describe is common in many chainsaws. Try loosening then reseating the oil cap before putting her away to relieve any pressure built up in the oil tank. Check all the hose connections.
HusqvarnaUSA.com
http://www.husqvarna.com/us/homeowner/support/download-manuals/
Enter the 3 digit model number of you saw; uncheck "Manuals"; Check “Illustrated parts lists ”; then search.
Serial number breakdown: 06 1500198 (Husqvarna 359)
06 = year produced (prior to 2000 there is no space and only the first digit is used (61500198 could be 86 or 96))
15 = week in 2006 it was produced (March)
00198 = 198th unit produced that week regardless of model or type

Husqvarna 359 leaking chain oil

Remove the sprocket cover, bar, and chain. Find area where oil is discharged from case--is any part of the rubber seal damaged? Next, use compressed air to clean sawdust and dirt from oiler ports in rear of bar as well as the chain slot. Are you using motor oil instead of bar oil? Make sure there is nothing to prevent bar from making close contact with oiler port in case. Reassemble all parts and adjust chain tension.
