Question about IBM 11P836402 for ThinkPad R40 Monitor
I have an IBM R40. When I boot up I actually get (for a brief period )a quick display of whatever should be presented to the laptop display. Then it goes blank. In the background(real faint) I can see the application and I can use an external monitor just fine. If I hit the little black switch above the keyboard, I will get a flash of whatever Windows screen is open displayed on my laptop screen but then it goes blank again. I can continue to hit the little black switch and again, it will flash whatever screen is open to my laptop screen but eventually thinks I am in shutdown mode and I have to hit a key to get it to come back up. Any help would be appreciated. Are there specific drivers with XP I should check? Is there a setting in CMOS I should check?
I think you have an inverter board thats just about dead. It's located in the screens plastic housing at the bottom of the screen just above the keyboard. It's about 4 inches long and a half inch wide. There's just one little cable connecting it. But you have to take your screen apart to get to it. It's easy to replace and relatively inexpensive but it does require a little disassembly skill.
Also ,I will need the exact part number from the bottom of your laptop. There are several different R 40 models, and 2 different screen sizes.
