Question about Whirlpool LSQ9610L Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Agitator does minimal agitation

I have a Whirlpool LSR7233000 Washer. Recently, the agitator does not seems to function correctly as it only has minimal agitation and does not "agitate" clothes from top to bottom. This occurs even with minimal washer loads. Is there an easy way to remove the agitator and sees if a "stuck/torn" piece of clothing may be hindering this motion?

Hi Omni,
The Agitator "dogs"/cams have given up the ghost and need to be replaced. Access to them is easy. Before starting the repair, have this part in hand.

Here's a tool list;
1.) small flat screwdriver (to remove the top part of the agitator)
2.) 3/8" ratchet
3.) 8" X 3/8" extension (for the ratchet)
4.) 7/16" socket

Take a gander at this pic... you'll be going after #10 'cause that's the problem.
Agitator does minimal agitation - 38834c8.jpg

All you gotta do is remove the top parts from the agitator to access it. See #2 in the diagram? That's the bolt holding the agitator to the transmission shaft. Remove that, then lift the whole agitator out of the tub. Now place the agitator on the floor and put both of your feet on the base. Now lift the agitator (#3) off the base (#4). Place one of your hands into the opening of the top of the agitator (to hold the cam (#9) in place) then turn the agitator over. The cam will slide right out.

Now you'll see the cam "dogs"... little white curved plastic doo-hickeys. All you gotta do now is install the new cam assy. and rebuild the agitator! Cool, huh? All it takes is about $15 bucks in parts and ~20 minutes.

Let me know if you have further questions. And don't forget to rate my solution as "FixYa"! Thanks, BB

Easy once you have removed the agitator put both feet on either sides. In other words hold it down and pull. The factory tabs needs to be broken. If that fails used a long screw driver and try and break off the tabs.

Whirlpool ultimate care II agitator seems as if it is not woking properly

this is for the whirlpool washer,if you grab the top of the agitator can you spin it both ways without it grabbing,it should only spin one way,if you can spin it both ways you have bad dogs, the agitator cam kit part number is 285809 and it's around 13 dollars.pop off the center cap of the agitator, remove the 7 1/6 inch screw in the middle and pull off the top of the agitator to get at the dogs, you'll see them there are 4 of them, they waer down and the top of the agitator doesn't work.watch this video.

The agitator seems to be loose. It washes, spins and gets rid of the water, however the agitator seems to be loose. Is there any way of tighting it up or do I need to buy a part of some kind?

Your problem may just be attributed to a loose agitator bolt, or the agitator dogs require replacement.

Roper (which is manufactured by Whirlpool) has a split agitator design. The upper portion is called the auger, while the bottom is called the agitator. Between these components is a agitator cam assembly. This problem is commonly caused by worn agitator dogs or the agitator cam assembly. The following link explains what the dogs are and how to replace them:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r823955-replacing_agitator_dogs

The part number is included in the link provided. You can purchase replacements at pcappliancerepair.com for about $5. For a little more you can purchase the entire cam replacement kit, which includes the cam, the thrust bearing, and the dogs. If the model number you listed this under is correct, the part number for the kit is 285811 and sells for about $11.

NOTE: You can refer to the excellent exploded view parts diagrams the web site has to offer for assistance. Whirlpool also recommends the application of a little grease on the thrust washer. The part number for their recommended grease is AP3098553.

If you have any questions about this repair, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: DO NOT overtighten the agitator bolt. This can cause damage to the plastic, or restrict the agitator movement. Tighten until snug.

Upper portion of Whirlpool agitator not turning

Your agitator dogs are worn out. Remove the agitator and seperate the upper section from the lower section. There are 4 small teardrop shaped pieces that are the agitator dogs. They have either come apart over time or at least the teeth have worn off them.
Post back with any questions. Please verify the model number. I couldn't pull up a parts list for it. I know the last digit should be a 0 (zero) instead of an o.
Thanks/Mike
