Re: Ram change problem

There should be a reset button on bottom of laptop....if not...remove battery, power supply plug and remove the mbottom panels....under one of them is a battery the size of one of two....either 6mm in diametre or one of 22mm in diametre...remove it and leave laptop for about 5 min....remove memory, touch the memory's golden edges briefly with your fingers to discharge charge in memeory.put everything together...should solve your problem. How can I upgrade/improve the capabilities of my Inspiron 1200

The best and quickest improvement is to add more RAM. Add another 512 Mb of RAM. If you already have a 512 Mb of RAM module then add another 512 Mb RAM module. If your laptop has 2X256 Mb RAM modules then you need to remove these and insert 2X512 Mb RAM modules.
The reason why you have 504 Mb RAM is that the video card has grabbed 8Mb of RAM off the main memory.

Upgrading ram on laptop, new ram not recognized.

remove the bios battery for a few seconds...and place it back on ...this will make it see the new ram memory modules...if you are sure they are compatible ..they will work fact ..the ddr1 333 512 M is more that compatible with your system and it will work after you remove the battery ...\ my recommendation is to reinstall a clean operation system after you boot up ...and format the C partition too...this have to be done after memory changes to get the max out of them ..

Won't Reboot after installing new RAM

If you remove the 1GB memory that you were trying to install and it will boot, then it is your new memory that is not compatible. Check here for what memory will be compatible with your laptop.

Ram Upgrade Problem

There is nothing wrong and your install is OK.
The laptop has used some of the RAM as video RAM for the video card that is part of the motherboard.
You should have noticed that with a single 512Mb RAM you would not have the full 512Mb RAM available to you, the video has grabbed 128Mb of RAM.

Getting access to bios in Dell Inspiron 1300

No, The amount of RAM the integrated video uses is dynamically adjusted depending on the loading of the video and the total amount of RAM installed.

If less than 512 MB RAM, the video is limited to 64MB, 512 to 2 GB max video RAM is 128 MB.
