Question about Canon Pixma iP2600 Photo InkJet Printer
I had color and black ink and the color ran out so i took it out and changed the settings to use just black ink and it will not let me print. it says i need to install the color and i already threw it away.
I had problems after two years of refilling ink cartridges. The usual.
In order to refill a cartridge (In this case the 30 black & 31 color) you must remove the original paper covering on top of either or both cartridges to expose the original fill holes.
On the black (30) cartridge, I did so and then enlarged the original fill hole to accept my syringe needle for refilling. NOW...this is imperitive, replace the paper covering and tape down with clear tape.
On the color (31) cartridge, I did the same routine and enlarged the three original fill holes. Filled each of the color partitions and again replaced the paper cover which was removed to expose the fill holes. Works like a charm.
I found out the paper covering MUST be replaced when I decided during completion of refilling the color (31) cartridge that taping the paper covering back on was not necessary. WRONG!!!! I immediately got the same error problems everyone else is complaining about. Got 1 green then 7 orange flashes. I reset the printer and got l green then 5 orange flashes. Etc. Replaced the paper covering and after several minutes of cycles (I could hear the printer cycles) it finally asked if I wanted to discontinue the ink level capability. I clicked OK. Then after a couple more minutes of cycling the printer was again ready to print.
Now having no problems. I have refilled both black and color cartridges many times. Used up two or three color kits and allmost all of a 16 oz. black ink container. Print heads still doing a great job.
Guys, I hope this helps you. Appears to me the paper covering of the cartridges holds the secret. My advice...put them back on carefully so printer can "read".

You'll need to either put it back in or replace it.
You need to have both color and black cartridges in for your printer to work.
Never throw away cartridges, save money and refill them or you can take them to most any computer store for recycling.
