Toshiba A75-S211 memory

My A75-S211 is runnng XP Pro and has a max of 1.5gb. It has board menory of 512 and one slot with 512. So i can relpace the slot 512 with a new 1gb. My question is can add a 2gb and exceed the 1.5 and will it run and use the extra 512kb of menory? I world like to add as much menory as posible

That's what i stated. the question is; could i add 2gb men card, that is greater then rated max ? and can i get any additional proformance by doing so? I'm runing XP PRO not XP home that come with the Toshiba. BTW my base is 512 and not 256.

I'm showing a base memory on that unit of 256 so your max upgrade is 1gb to 1.2gb total.

According to crucial.com your max upgrade is a 1gb stick, they do allude to the 512 base so you have my apologies for using incorrect info but that still leaves you at 1.5gb. According to what they say you can't use a 2gb module.

Below are the specs to the type of memory that can be installed in the A75...it is very specific and cannot be anything else then what is listed. You have 512 mb built onto the motherboard, with one expansion slot. That slot can only hold up to 1 gb stick if the BIOS has been upgraded. Go to Toshiba support and make sure the BIOS on the machine is up to date so it will accept the larger stick of ram memory and make sure all the specs are right on the stick that you have.

Each memory slot can hold DDR PC2700 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.*

  • Maximum Memory: 1536MB
  • Slots: 1 (1 bank of 1)
  • Standard Memory: 512, 768, or 1024MB (512MB non-removable)
  • USB Support: 2.x Compliant

    Adding memory to a a75-s211

How much memory did it have before you removed the 256Mb RAM?
If it had 756Mb RAM then the memory in the laptop has 512 Mb plus 256 Mb RAM modules, the 256Mb in the slot you can see and possibly 512Mb in a slot under the keyboard or soldered on the motherboard.
Therefore by removing the 256Mb and replacing with 1Gb memory module will give you a total of 1.5Gb

    You can do either.
I suggest that if you want to double your memory capacity is to buy another memory module with the same specs and size as the existing one, preferrably from the same manufacturer.

    HI embreelynn,

just want to check, did you left the top slot open when you put the 2gig in the bottom slot, if you do, I suggest you try it with the 512 in the top slot and the 2gig in the bottom, the reason is that some mobo implements "banking" which means that you'll have to fill in the 1 mem slot before the using 2nd, 3rd and so on.

    hope this helps, regards.
