I am a drummer and use an Alesis to lay down demo tracks at home. Alesis I have found are the very hardest to update. If I were you first I would do a Google search for updates for your model and if you do not find anything then contact Alesis support and ask them if there are updates for the DM-5 and where you can get them from. If there are no updates I am sorry to say that you will most likely have to purchase a newer model.
I wish you the best of luck!!
Phil

Wanted the instructions to assemble a set of ElectricDrums,/DM5,ALESIS

Which is it... a DM5 set or an SR16? This Fixya thing is disgusting trying to offer up brands and models.
IF you might have an SR16 that has a problem, the USUAL problem is using the WRONG power supply with it. You CANNOT use universal power supply... you must use the official adapter or it will not work.

I have a DM5 18 bit drum module. It is a while since it was last used and I can't find the mains adapter. I bought a new one and have it set at 9V. The unit switches on but it is very dim and I...

You CANNOT use one of those universal adapters, period. The DM5 Alesis takes an AC output adapter. You need 9 VAC at 830ma or more. AC output adapters are hard to find and you are not the first to try a universal and find that they don't work! Here is one of MANY sources on Ebay:

I'm trying to use the pads of my Yamaha DTXplorer drum kit as triggers for the sounds stored on my Alesis SR-18 drum machine. I have seen that Alesis markets a trigger module of their own which they...

you need to determine what midi note the DTXplorer is using for the snare, kick and 3rd tom, and set the SR-18 accordingly, or vica-versa. the midi notes for each instrument has to be the same.

if you cannot change the midi note in either unit to make them correspond, you can download a "midi mapper" program (i think e-drum might be one), there is freeware available if you search CNet. with a midi mapper program, you would have to get a midi/usb adapter for your computer and rouite the midi signal through a computer. midi mapping software allows you to change the midi note, when the hardware itself is incapable of doing so.
