Question about Directv D11 DTV Receiver

3 Answers

I just had directv hooked up, I have a dvr receiver, I was told I did not have enough hook ups on the back of my tv, so therefore, I went and bought a switch or combiner. Now, how do I need to run the cables to the switch and also hook up my dvd player. Right now the directv is all that is hooked up to the tv. Help

Newer directv hd receivers must connect to the av input (yellow, red, white) connections on the back/front/side of your tv. If your tv only has one of these av inputs then you will need an RF modulator for your dvd player. You will connect the (yellow, red, white) connections from the dvd player to the rf modulator and then connect the tv out on the rf modulator to the tv rf jack ( the silver threaded barrel on the back of the tv) Tune your tv to channel 3 to watch a dvd and then back to the av input channel for the directv receiver.

If you bought a component switcher, you should just have to run all of your inputs from your DirecTv and DVD into the input side of your switcher, then use on set of cables to connect it to your t.v. If that isn't the solution you needed let me know what part you bought to combine them and I'll see if I can give you more specific information.

Hook the output of the switch to your tv then run your cables from your dvr to one input of the switch then run wires from the dvd player to another input on the switch then you switch between the two whenever you want to use either one

SOURCE: how to i hook-up a directv dvr plus to two tv's?

plug one tv using coax (screw in cable). plug the other using composite video cables( yellow, red, white). It will be easy to connect the tv that's the farthest with coax, its cheaper to purchase 50ft of coax vs 50ft of composite video.

SOURCE: how to hook up a

Hello.
My name is Russ and I will try to help you with your problem.
But first let me explain you something about hooking up equipment to TV.
Several years ago it was very common practice to hook up cable box to the VCR/DVD combo and into TV. Some installers still doing it today. It is easy for installer and only 1 cable is running tovwards TV. Before it was necessity because bunch of direct view TV's had just one input.
This kind of installation have big disadvantages. When video signal runs into TV trough some other device it just getting worse, not better.Quality is reduced and you are getting much noisier and low contrast image than if you would run connection straight into TV.
Today's TV sets have several inputs and able to get direct unmolested signal from several sources such a DVD player, Satellite receiver etc.
You don't need to connect your DVD player to DirecTV box or wise-versa. They actually not even designed for such connections. All you need to do is run most high-quality connections straight into two different TV inputs and enjoy highest quality video and sound possible. You will need to change inputs on your TV screen when changing from Satellite to DVD, but it's OK, everybody does it.
If your DirecTV box have HDMI output, I would recommend use HDMI cable for highest quality possible. Next in line would be component (red, green, blue for video and red, white for audio cable and/or output) Both those connections a high-definition. For standard definition you can use composit (yellow for video, red and white for audio cable and/or output). Last and worst is regular antenna (RF) cable. You need those to run satellite signal from dish to receiver but after that I would recommend not to use it.
You should read your TV owner's manual, it should have diagrams and pictures of everything that I just explained to you.
Regards.
Russ.

Why wont my surround work with new Dish network dvr.

Hello,

When the DISH Network installed hooked up their DVR, did they connect it via HDMI? If so, then it could be a bad HDMI connection. I would bet they simply bypassed your receiver and went straight to the TV, which is why no audio comes out of your receiver. You can test this by turning on your DVR and TV. If you see picture with your receiver OFF, then they bypassed your receiver. You'll need to hook up and HDMI cable from the DVR into the receiver and then out of the receiver to the TV.

This is a rather uncomplicated satellite receiver, and basically only has a left/right audio out.
You can hook these into any of the stereo type inputs on the HT-RC230.
This receiver is also the "wal-mart" brand of Onkyo (not their best stuff) - so I suggest you take the L/R audio out on the DVR and put it into ANY available (cd/tape/dvd) stereo input on the receiver.
You aren't going to get better sound out of any specific input.

II just want to ask a question about a TIVO DVR.

You can buy a used DirecTV with Tivo. You probably had a Hughes SD-DVR40 or SD-DVR80 before. The used model needs to be transferable to your account (which means it can't be leased, it has to have no outstanding charges on the previous account, etc). And you have to buy a new DirecTV card.

If you are in the San Francisco Bay Area or in San Jose, write to tivorepair@gmail.com and they should be able to help you out.

Dvr won't turn on but fan is running

If you unplug the dvr and open it up, unscrew the screws and just open the casing. Can you see any battery inside it? It would look similar to a watch battery most likely. My security dvr will do that and I have to replace the internal battery, not sure if tivo like dvrs are the same though.
