Question about Rio Carbon MP3 Player

1 Answer

Need to Downgrade Rio Carbon Firmware

I installed the developer's cut firmware on my rio carbon, and I don't like it. I can't figure out how to reset the device back to it's default firmware, I want it to show up on the computer as a normal usb drive like before, rather than a portable device with "internal memory".

It doesn't show up in the windows disk management and does not have a drive letter, or the option to format when I right click it in my computer.

I've tried the older firmware, but they don't seem to recognize the player anymore :(

Also, the rio music manager apparently has a format option, but it's not recognizing the player either. Not sure if it would do what i need if it could see it though.

D: Finally found out why it wasn't working. It needed to be set to MSC instead of MTP for connection in the advanced settings menu for the player.

How do you restore your carbon back to factory settings? i want to completely delete everything but i don't have the software...i havent for quite awhile. can you restore it just using the device itself?...

You cannot restore the player without a computer but by formatting your drive and re-loading the Rio Carbon Firmware, you can reset it to factory settings.
The Developers cut firmware (latest (unofficial) firmware) is still available here:

Have you tried installing the 3.04 firmware. This should solve your problem without deleting your data and resetting your rio.

Rio carbon can figure out how to get the download into the rio

The 3.04 developers cut firmware gives you a volume control via the bottom of your menu. You can get it from:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r624838-3_04_directors_cut_firmware_rio_carbon

follow the link.

Hope this helps,
Mowcius

Btw, i will also be posting a tip on how to fix a broken scroll wheel on a rio carbon soon so have a look in a couple of days (maybe even tonight) and i should have done that.

You must use the native software - still available on rio's website. No other transfer method will work with this player.

Rio Carbon jams?

You probably need the firmware 3.04 (directors cut)

There are many people who have had audio book problems but this firmware seems to sort them.

Sorry but I can't find a link for the firmware 3.04

I found one yesterday! but today I can't find one!

I'll post if I find a working link

Rio carbon upgrader message

Hi Linda, Your Rio Carbon is telling you that something is messed with its firmware and it can be resolved with an upgrade. You have to determine the exact model of your unit and download the firmware from http://www.digitalnetworksna.com/support/rio/. Again you must choose the exact model. There are two ways of updating firmware updater or internet updater. complete instructions are also available. further you would need to connect your Rio to a PC to perform the upgrade. Good luck and pls post back should you need further information. Kind regards.
