Please help. My Epson CX5400 All-In-One printer stops printing in black. I performed the "Clean printhead" about 20 times by now and still no sign of black ink. All of the other color looks great. And, yes, the black ink cartridge is new and full.

Re: The black ink is not printing out
Look at this old post of mine here to see how to effectively clean the print head and unclog the nozzles.
If you still have no joy, try getting a copy of a thing called "Countermeasure for loss of ink" from http://www.TheServiceManualShop.com it should help you further

Hi There Summary Usage of compatible ink and leave the printer idle too long may cause printhead clogging What should you do if you get this problem. Relax; you may recover the printhead by unclogging it. Follow these steps to unclog the printhead 1.Right click in the printer driver name 2.Select Properties menu 3.Click Maintenance tab 4.Click on cleaning sign for regular cleaning. Perform this up to 3 times. 5.If this does not work, perform Deep Cleaning And if that not work Some times it needs a good clean up but this is up to you if you want to do this, But after you done this prime the printer so it gets the inks back in the heads, it may take a little time for the inks to work. Ok. There is fluid cleaner for this but I can never find any in the shops the only ones I seen is when they sell them in Tesco but they come in with the ink refill bottles so I just use worm water by it self on a cloth and dabbing on the heads to clean them, it will not harm the heads but not to much water. Some heads are on the inks them self but some have them inside the printer so I not know your printer so if the heads are inside you need to get them out you may find that some heads will just clip out put some need to be unscrewed so you got to know how they come out so be careful and not push to hard on them, if the heads are on the ink then it is a easy job to clean them, It worth a try it worked for me more than ones. Please all I ask is call back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one, so I will keep on helping.

I have to ask this question of you, just to make sure this is not an issue. Are you using a factory new ink cartridge? Please consider the following: If you are using a refilled or third party cartridge that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges. They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead. If you are using factory new cartridges, then please call the manufacturers Technical Support for assistance with the warranty on the cartridges Don
in the epson cx5400 you can not still print pecause the printer sign red light on the ink the printer design stop from the factory for this now you change the all set not only magenta that is better because the printer make clean when you change and that take charge from the set ink I think you understand what I mean thank you
Before replacing the print head on the printer try these steps , and if the printer get long without printing the changes of ink getting dried id high and resulting streaky printing or missing ink on the paper even if the ink is detected by the printer ...
# Hold the cartridge upside down, with the bar-code label facing you and take a damp paper towel. # Use the towel to wipe the printhead of the cartridge on the bottom (where the ink comes out). Wipe the printhead horizontally in one direction only (left to right). # Continue doing this until it looks clean. # Then dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure the ink is flowing. # Next, look inside the printer and locate the carrier that holds ink cartridges. Caution: Make sure the cartridges are not installed at this point.
1. Look for a shiny piece of metal underneath the contacts at the back of the carrier. 2. Take a damp cotton swab (use water only!) and wipe along the bottom of the shiny metal piece. Note: You may need more than one swab.
# Reinstall the cartridges, making sure you snap them correctly into the printer.
u printhead block..that why cannot ink cant not get trough from the print head..or try clean the print head using printer properties under maintenain .for informations epson print head are sensetif..
Buy them at a official EPSON service center or throw away the printer and buy a HP. Actual EPSON printers uses 5 ml ink cartridges for each color and black. HP printers has the same volume cartridges but there are only 2, tricolor and black. If a HP printing head becomes clogged (don't worry, it almost never happens), just throw away the cartridge and install another (the print head comes with the ink cartridge). If a EPSON print head becomes clogged you have no other choice than buying another printer because EPSON's print heads are expensive and become discontinued 12 months after the printer model was launched to the market.
Also, HP Printers are cheaper than those from EPSON and offers excellent print quality on any paper. Compare a 10 years old HP printer with actual EPSON's and the HP has the sharpest black printing. The color is another story.
Once you start the ink cartridge reclamp procedure, you must complete all the steps in one session.
1. Make sure the EPSON Stylus CX5400 is turned on and not printing.
2. Press a MENU button until you see CHANGE CARTRIDGE, then press the COLOR COPY BUTTON. The ink cartridges will move to the replacement position.
3. Lift up the unit's cover, to access the ink cartridges.
4. Pinch the tabs on the front and back of the cartridge, and lift it out of the printer.
5. Lower the cartridge back into its holder, then press down on the top of the cartridge until it clicks in place.
Caution: Don't touch the green circuit board on the back of the cartridge, as you may inhibit normal operation and printing.
6. Carefully lower the scanner and press it down until it clicks into place. The EPSON Stylus CX5400 begins charging the ink delivery system.
The On light flashes and the EPSON Stylus CX5400 makes noise. Charging takes about 30 seconds. When it's finished, the On light stops flashing and stays on steady.
Caution: Never turn off the EPSON Stylus CX5400 while the On light is flashing, unless the Stylus CX5400 hasn't moved or made noise for more than 5 minutes.
if the issue still persists - you need to call the vendor - it´s a hardware issue
Are you using genuine Epson ink? Is it under a year old/ If so you have a warranty repair. Make sure you peeled off the tape from inks. Run a cleaning cycle. If still no color, you may need printheads. Not worth repairing.
