Homelite Lawn trimmer HLT26CDNB hard to pull start cord. Seems to be pulling against compression.

Take the spark plug out and see if it still hard to pull, if not it might have been the cylinder was flooded.

You need three things. Spark, compression and fuel. Pull the spark plug and make sure it is not fouled and you have spark when cranking. Put your finger over the spark plug hole and feel for compression while pulling the engine over. There is a reed valve between carb and block that clogs and prevents fuel from getting to cylinder.

Yes i have tried everything to get a 1995 chevy astro van 4.3l in time .could you give me the steps to go by from scarcth, and how do you know which is the compression stroke? help plz

if you don't know which is the compression stroke, there's an easy way, but it may require extra hands to help. remove the number 1 spark plug, put you finger over the spark plug hole to where it seals the hole. turn the crankshaft clockwise, on the intake stroke you'll feel piston sucking air in, pulling on your finger. then it should start blowing air out the plug hole, hard enough where its hard to keep your finger covering the hole. this is the compression stroke. when the piston gets to the top of this stroke, the rotor inside the distributor should be lined up (or at least very close) to the corresponding number 1 on the distributor cap. if its 180 degrees off, you'll have to pull distributor out and realign it.

Won't start, have cleaned filter, has gas in it, new spark plug still will not start.

You might try a new contact-points set, and making
sure the magneto that supply current to the spark-plug is clean and not obstructed. Also feel the compression: to do this remove the spark-plug and place a finger in the spark-plug hole. Then crank the engine. If the compression is good, you will feel it, and smell the gas/air mixture.

How to find tdc on 95 ford escort 1.9

Using a compression tester in the cylinder all the way to the pass side, turn the engine over by hand until you see pressure rise. This gives you the start of the compression stroke. Remove the compression tester. (If you don't have one, put a finger the the spark plug hole and wait until you feel pressure. (Do not use the battery to turn it over, only do it by hand.) Once you are starting the compression stroke, put a thin but long screw driver or anything straight but easy to put in the spark plug hole.int that first cylinder.

Again, turning over by hand, turn it until the screw driver is at its highest point. You are at TDC.

Hope this helps

I just picked up a used ryobi rgbv3100 mulcher vacum blower ,it had no gas in it i put the oil gas mix in it ,followed the instructions on the blower ,but cant get it to start ,any ideas on what i can do?

test for spark.
while spark plug is out - put finger over hole see how much compression there is.

If good spark - look for holes in fuel line.

Homelite leaf blowers that use whats called a half crankshaft system are prone to many problems. Whats a half crank system you ask? If there is a small aluminum plate that attaches to the side of the engine by the gas tank you have one of these. Usually held on with 4 small bolts. I just got rid of a Homelite Vac Attack 2 that had spark and compression but the compression checked low about 75 should be 90 or better. What happened, a head bolt came loose and the engine ran lean causing the fragile rings on the piston to heat up and when that happens they loose their outward spring that seals against the cyclinder walls. A simple compression check using a gauge and not your finger will tell you that. Other causes could be less than normal spark, or maybe the exhaust port under the muffler has carbon build up or the muffler is plugged up also Check all bolts, and nuts to make sure they are tight.

Will not start

It sounds like your blower needs a carburator overhaul. Either there is gum from dried gas blocking a passage, or one of the diaphrams has a crack in it. This is not a difficult repair. You purchase a carb kit for your machine, then carefully disassemble the carb & clean all of the components with brake cleaner spray. Make sure to spray through the several tiny holes in each diaphragm chamber. Now put the carb back together, using the new parts in the kit.
Before you do this, however, check the hoses on the engine, one might be cracked or blocked.
