JVC Everio GZ-MG21 Camcorder

No sound on transferred files (by 8 users)

posted by BBill83 on Sep 13, 2007

When I play my movies on my camcorder itself, I get full sound and picture, but when I attach the camcorder to my PC via the provided cord; and try to play the movie either directly from the camcorder's memory or copy them to a folder on the hard drive, all I am getting is the picture, no sound. Do I need to use a special program for it to work? Windows Media has no problem playing the picutre, but it comes back with no sound

And yes, I have already checked the sound via multiple source files and all are working except files from this camcorder, so my card is good, speakers on, volume on and un-muted, etc

I used the following from Solution #2 below and it worked - I had sound.
I did not rename the ending of my files - I just downloaded the file below, re-tried my video files, and they played with sound!

"Download and install Windows Essentials Codec Pack 1.0 Setup.exe"

sony hdd-sr82 recorded my video then the media was transferred to laptop then recorded to dvd disc. movie shows on dvd disc but without sound....why? i used dvd+rw disc for storing the movie for further editing and playback away from laptop.

I used Explore and copied the movies to an external hard drive.
Still no sound with several movie player formats.
Google found a bunch of forums with people having the same problem and it seems the JVC sound file is a new Apple format that is not compatible.
I am on another computer now and Google is giving me totally different results--none helpful.

"If you're not getting sound when playing back in a media player, you might not have an AC3 decoder installed since the audio on some models (such as my panasonic) are recorded in AC3. You could always google ac3filter and install that, and that'll usually provide the codec for the sound playback and decoding." - Karl Mari

I have a JVC GZ-MG330HU and had the same problem.

Here's what I have done and it works for me.....
1) Download and install Windows Essentials Codec Pack 1.0 Setup.exe
2) Download .MOD files from camcorder to your computer
3) Rename the files by changing the extension from .MOD to .mpg

Can download Windows Essentials Codec Pack 1.0 from....

Try to upgrade your audio driver and software, or you try to plug it into another pc. I assumed you installed the installer cd provided in your camera.

I read that the sound file is a new Apple format and not compatible. I am on a different computer now and Google is not finding much of substance this time.
