Question about Dell E173FP 17" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

I have similar problems. Though my LCD is a Dell E178FPv and the monitor will come on very dim for about 3-4 seconds, then go black. Green power button on. I have isolated this to this monitor. Some of my questions are, now that I have this monitor completely apart, how do I check the output for the lamps and inverter so I can purchase the right parts to install? I have a volt/ohm meter. I am very comfortable with de-/soldering, so if the inverter is bad I do not mind changing out the transistors. Though my experience with inverters are that diodes usually need replacing. What would be replaced if the lamps were bad? So, how do I properly test for bad inverter and lamps and what to do afterward? Thanks! Lynx

I have the same problem but now after it went to sleep (screens goes blank as it should) when I tried to wake it up (pressing a key or moving the mouse) it will not come on at all. I tried another monitor and the video works fine. Would love to know if there is a inexpensive fix.
    Thanks and good luck.

After much investigating, with no help, even from the major manufacturers, I just replaced the large 6 capacitors on the inverter board, not the huge single one or the smaller ones. Two 1000uf 10v, two 470uf 25v, two 680uf , look at the tops of the caps for the slightest sign of bulging or warping. If your not sure replace them, they are inexpensive. You'll need soldering experience and make sure you use flux.

In a dell e177fpf lcd monitor all the capasitors fuses diodes in power supply and inverter board are ok.but the back lights remains 2 seconds.

Hello...I recently opened up my Dell E173Fpf monitor because the screen went black, yet the power button was green. I thought it was a capacitor problem. But before doing anything I gave the board a thorough inspection, looking for anomalies. I observed a substance, (later identified as silicon) puddled around the power connections. I gently removed the semi rigid stuff and didn't touch the capacitors as I had originally planned. I partially reassembled the monitor for a test run and it worked again. (Being 9 years old, I don't know for how long...) Only thing I can think of is that a spill happened at the factory and over the years it gradually "melted" to puddle around the wires behind the power input. (Weird, but that seems to be what happened.)

Hi i have a problem about my lcd viewsonic va702, when starting my computer i can see the image for 1 sec then it turn black ...lcd light is ok and computer too already tried with other lcd all works fine...

this works for Dell monitors with a similar problem: shut down, turn off monitor and pc, turn off at wall socket, and remove power plugs from wall socket. wait about 30 seconds. plug back in, turn on, and all should be well? I have used this 3 times on a Dell PC with a Viewsonic monitor.

The DELL E172FPb LCD Monitor (switch light flicks green)scr black

hi, extremely common problem for dell 17 in monitors. the capacitors and transistors on the power board internally have gone bad. to get repaired, it may cost 40-50 at a shop. i have repaired these in the past and they always come out well for at least 3 more years. may want to find another monitor though. if you would like steps on how to repair, let me know and i will find my old repair threads to give to you.

E207WFPc Dell Monitor goes black after seconds of poweron.

Hi,
The problem you have mentioned may not be due to contrast setting but the LCD itself . Power on the mointor and disconnect the signal cable from the back. if you see a self test box running on the LCD , the LCD is oK . If you donnot see the self test box the LCD is back. Dell doesnot service LCDs and you may need to get in touch with the local repair shop.

Dell E156FP Monitor Problem

If the screen is not completely black (i.e. just very very dim, turn the lights off to see) try using the controls at the bottom of the monitor to reset to factory settings (all settings). I have had this problem with two dell monitors so far and this seems to work.

I've had a very similar issue on many Dell Monitors. Mine have been under warranty and they usually send me a new monitor, but I believe the issue lies with the power supply within the monitor.

Looks like your inverter board is broken.

Similar problem as Neovo F-417 (same chassis) , Look for 715L1283-4 inverter board

Monitor flashes on and off!

Sounds like you have a bad connection from your monitor to your computer. First check and make sure the connection between them is tight. Does your computer boot up and run though? If your computer is not booting up the monitor will default back to the flashing green power light
