Most of the issues I've had like this are resolved by installing or reinstalling the latest software drivers which are available here. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=1153494&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us&submit=Go%20
pick your operating system, download the appropriete driver to your desktop , install it, restart.. do a test page both in windows printer properties and in one of your document editting programs like word.
Post again here if that doesn't remedy things.
Regards..

Can't print pictures from my laptop. The printer always says paper jam but there isn't one

"Paper Jam" issues are common with printers. They most often occur right after there has been a paper jam. Most people (not necessarily YOU), don't take the time to read how to properly clear a paper jam in their printers and often yank the jammed sheets backward thru the paper tray. Most times you should remove the cover in the back and pull the jam FORWARD out the rear, or if the jam made it close to the output tray, then FORWARD thru to the output tray. Pull sheets backward can cause two issues. It makes tearing the paper easier. This can result in tiny pieces being caught in places where the printer detect them as a jam. The other issue is that pulling backward can damage the feed rollers that pull the paper into the machine, as well as the mechanical sensors that detect paper jams. If you cannot find ANY shards of paper in the machine, you may have printer damage that results in the jam indication.

Two sheets wedged up tightly in the first feed rollers from bottom tray. Had my nose in every available orifice of the cursed thing and still can't clear it. I beg at your knees. Steve

Hi,

To remove paper jam from your Brother printer, follow the steps given below.

  • Open the front cover
  • Slowly take out the drum unit and the toner cartridge assembly
  • Open the back cover (as shown below)
shreysri_13.gif
  • Pull the Tab on the bottom right towards you
  • Pull the jammed paper out of the fuser unit. If the jammed paper cannot be pulled out eaisly, push the tab with one hand while you gently pull the paper out with the other hand

  • Print a test page
Happy Printing :)

I have a problem. When I turn on my printer, the first symbol from top constantly blinks and it doesn't print anything. How can I solve this issue?

Welcome to FixYa!

If the first symbol on the top is constantly blinking as shown in the picture below, It means that a paper or a foreign object has jammed your printer.

jas247_22.gif

Jam can occur in 3 areas. Please refer to the image below.
1. Internal Areas
2. Input Trays
3. The Output Bins
jas247_23.gif

To clear the jam, turn the printer off and disconnect the power cord. Be careful not to tear the paper in case of a paper jam. If a small piece of paper remains in the printer, it could cause additional paper jam.

Let's clear out the Internal Areas first. Push the button to open the print-cartridge door, and then remove the print cartridge. To prevent damage, do not expose the print cartridge to light. Cover it with a piece of paper. Please refer to the image below.

jas247_24.gif
If jammed paper is visible, grasp it with both hands and slowly pull it out of the printer. Please refer to the image below.
jas247_25.gif
If no paper was jammed inside the print-cartridge door, open the Output Bin or the back door
of the printer. To avoid damaging the printer, do not attempt to clear a jam in the top output bin by pulling the paper straight out.
jas247_26.gif
Again, if jammed paper is visible, grasp it with both hands and slowly pull it out of the printer.
If no paper or foreign object is visible, close the back door of the printer.

Next, let's take a look at the Input Tray. (We have already taken out the print cartridge.)
Lift the Tray 1 roller cover, grasp the jammed paper or foreign object, and slowly pull it out of the printer. Please refer to the image below.
jas247_28.gif
If no jammed paper is or foreign object is visible, open Tray 2 and see if a paper is visible. Again remove it slowly with both hands. Please refer to the image below.
jas247_29.gif
Close Tray 2.
If no jammed paper is visible in the second tray area, pull down the upper media guide (we have already taken out the print cartridge). With both hands, grasp the jammed paper and slowly pull it out of the printer. Please refer to the image below.
jas247_30.gif
Close the upper media guide and return back the print cartridge. Please refer to the image below.
jas247_27.gif

These steps should clear out any jams that you are experiencing.
Connect back the power cord again and turn on your printer. You should be able to print now.

Thanks for using FixYa. Keep me posted.

Cannot pull out paper tray

i just had the same problem as you. what follows isn't so much a solution as a work-around.

the bottom line is that you can't ever let the paper tray get empty, or close to it (which is hard to do, since it only holds 30-50 sheets).

if you pull the back panel off the MFC-440CN (pull it straight out, or it won't come out), and look inside the hole at the bottom (get a flashlight), you'll see a piece of white plastic that is curved upward ... in front of that piece of plastic are a couple of wheels. if you reach in, you'll see that you can push that assembly toward the top side of the printer. as you reach around and grip the front of the paper tray, reach in with your other hand, and push that curved white piece of plastic up, and start to pull the tray out with your other hand. after you play around with it, you'll see the interplay between the tray and the plastic part.

what is happening is that that curved piece of plastic is catching on the back of the paper tray when we try to pull it out. the only way to make it so that it won't catch is to keep enough paper in the tray that the whole spring-loaded assemble to which the plastic piece is attached won't go down deep enough into the tray to catch the back of the tray.

THIS IS A DESIGN FAULT, AND IT SHOULD BE SUBJECT TO A BROTHER RECALL.

i hope this helps. i've had a lot of Brother products, and they've been very good, but this is very disappointing. i'm going to contact them and try to explain the problem. i read that theywon't do anything to help, which is even more disappointing, but i'm going to give it a shot.

If you removed a piece. But more remains it must also be removed. Look closely along the paper path for something that will release to provide access to the path.
