ive just bought an xbox for fable2. now the system is only 2 months old, and second to my ps3 *cough* wich i havent had any problems with in 2 years. im a big FFXI fan, and decided to turn the xbox 360 into a FFXI rig. ive been through the hours of downloads, and even played it for a few hours. problem is, out of nowhere im getting "unrecognized disc"..."this disc is unreadable" 1.clean disc with a soft cloth. 2.restart console. the disc was new...untill i scatched it up cleaning it with a soft cloth. i got a skip doctor and resurfaced the disk. nothing. and even bought a new FFXI and instantly get the same message. i had the idea of reinstalling the game...but cant find it to delete it off my system. and the real kick in the *** is i was able to get all my ps2 account info restored as this problem happened. god i hope theres a solution for this one lol. thx

- the solution to my problem was interface problems between the xbox360 and playonline. to solve the problem, i needed to reformat..and in the prosess i got an elite HD, because, FFXI takes about every ounce of the 13.7 gigs available on the standard 20g HD. apparently this is a problem quite a few people have had.Best Solution

this is caused by the n November update in the MS xbox360 dashboard. This is a problem with the xbox communicating with the hard drive. This usually occurs in xboxs that are not using the HD shipped with the console. According to square the only solution to this common problem is that you reformat your hd and intsall the game again. yes, you have have to wait for that dl to finish. square also states that there is a possiblity that this may re-occur after the second install, though rare.

If other games play well inside the XBOX360 this it's undoubtedly a problem with that particular disc.
When the XBOX says "Unreadable Disc" it means the laser isn't able to read it because of that disc. But, if it said something like "Open Tray" it would have been an issue with the XBOX drive itself.
You're going to have to do the whole process over with a brand new disc. Resurfacing the disc wont help and if it does it only does for a certain amount of time.
Sucks.. but, thats the only solution..
SIDENOTE: Try putting rubbing alcohol on the disc.

Its an Xbox problem, they need to get off their arses and ******* fix this problem its ridiculous that they've left it so long. 8th install this month due to being d/c'd from in game and having it "not read a disc". its not your disc that the issue lies with its Xbox and their shite update.
