Question about Dryers

2 Answers

Installing the belt around the dryer drum and pulleys. I have a broken belt and a loose pulley at the bottom of the dryer. How to I get the pulley on? Where does the pulley attach to create the proper tension? Is there more than one pulley? Is there a schematic and instructions somewhere to add with this part replacement? This is for a Kenmore Wrinkle Guard I dryer Model # 11076972130

Hello Phil. Thank you for you information about installing the belt on my Kenmore dryer. Before I can get to that part of the solution, I am wondering how do I access the drum in order to remove it? Do I need to remove the front panel, one of the side panels, or do I need to remove all of the parts that are in the back of the dryer, between me and the drum? Michael

Perfect and clear advice! Thanks so much. It worked like a charm and the dryer is working like a charm. I appreciate your counsel. I now have a good understanding of how to access the functional parts of the dryer.

You will have to take the drum out to see where the tentioner was inserted , it is in line with the motor pulley, should be a couple holes it fits into.
putting the belt on is easy , with the lined side of the belt down on the drum take the slack at the bottom with a finger holding the belt , move the belt toward the tentioner until it touches the tentioner pulley
then with your other hand help bend the tentioner pulley with the belt on it until you can touch the motor pulley with that finger , slide it off your finger onto the motor pulley and the belt is on.
let me know if you have any questions.

There should be 2 phillips screws under the filter door on the top , remove them and pry the front of the top panel up like a hood of a car , then you will see the drum and there are 2 more screws near the top front corner's of the unit holding the front panel on , remove those and then the front panel comes off.

that should get you in there.

let me know how it goes.

The way to visually see if the belt has broken or not is to 1) unplug the dryer. 2) Remove the lint screen on the top of the dryer. 3) take the two phillips head screws out where the lint trap is. 4) with a flat head screwdriver pop the top of the dryer up by sliding the driver inbetween the top and front of the dryer and pry upwards a little. 5) You'll now see the drum, if the belt is not around it its broken, and if it's visible try to lift it. If it taught, its good. IF THE BELT IS BROKEN OR LOOSE CONTINUE TO NEXT STEPS 6) on the left and right upper inner sides of the dryer you will find two screws, one on each side, remove these and the front should be easlily remove. 7) once off you'll be able to easily see the motor, the belts idler pulley, and everything else.
Leave the drum in the machine. Now, directly in front of the motor on the floor of the dryer you will see two slots. This is where the idler pulley will go. You'll notice on the pulley at the bottom of the bracket a piece of metal sticks downward. This will sit in the slot closest to the dryer wall, and the end of the bracket will slide into the other. You'll want to slide the end in first. Now with the pulley in place take the belt and put it around the drum tread side down. To hook the belt around the motor pulley you'll have to pull the idler pulley towards closest dryer wall and place the belt around the motor pulley. Slowly release the idler pulley and thats it. Put it together and your done.

1 Answer

BELT WON'T TURN THE DRUM

there is a tensioner pulley as well as the drum and motor
It hooks into a slot, usually on the floor of the case, and has a spring that pulls it against the belt to tension the belt.
Broken belts have been known to knock the tensioner out of place, it should be sitting on the floor of the case as should its spring.
There is usually ony one slot for it to sit in, self evident if you know to look for it
loop the belt around the drum.
slide the belt down the drum directly over the motor pulley
loop the belt around the motor pulley
pull the tensioner pulley hard to the end of its travel against its spring
wrap the belt around the tensioner pulley
release the tensioner so the spring pulls it against the belt
rotate the drum by hand to ensure the belt is aligned and does not pull offf the pulleys
reassemble case
dry clothes
its easier than it looks seeing a broken belt in the bottom of the case.
fd5c779.jpg tensioner may be on the bottom run pushing up, or on the top run pulling down
