As with LBP 2 You have to clear the first story quest (first story trophy will pop up) to get access to the community and your moon. The first story quest is more of a tutorial

Make sure you have a PSN accoutn setup if it is and your signed in check to make sure you dont have firmware version 3.0 because LBP was on the list of broken games in version 3.0. 3.01 is now available under system update

If he did an update that was loaded on the game it could have been an old one and cause a problem. Get him to try and do a system update via internet or go on a computer and go to the Playstation website and download it to a flashdrive. Hope this helps

Hi there. From what you are saying you used 2 different discs on the same machine. If this is the case then that will have absolutely no effect on the progress you have made within the game. Save games and any progress are saved to the hard drive of the PS3, not the disc. Say for instance I was playing Modern Warfare 2 on my PS3 and then a Friend brought his disc round, it would load from the point I had got up to using my disc, there is no way it can be affected.
What has happened in your case is your save game has become corrupted somehow and the next good save game is becoming the default one. It could be a bad block of data on the hard drive that is not able to be read by the PS3. You could try restoring the hard drive file structure but there is a risk you could lose even more data.
I am sorry I could not give you a better answer but unfortunately this is one of those things that do just happen.
