Question about Compaq Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Blank screen -

I hooked it up to an external monitor via the VGA output and it is not sending a video signal that way either. Some feedback has been it's the motherboard and some say a video card. trying to decide if it's worth trying to get it fixed or not.

Try going into the desktop properties, then go to settings and make sure the VGA Monitor is selected as an output.

No Audio on external device via VGA

Dear Paul,

VGA cables have no provision to carry audio signal - they only carry video signals.

In general, external monitors that also have speakers have RCA-type or miniplug-type audio inputs. In this case, you will need to use another audio cable to connect the phones output of your laptop to the input of your monitor, using a suitable cable.

If you provide us the model number of your laptop, as well as the one for your external monitor, we could try to find the info regarding the kind of audio cable needed to connect both.

Hope you may find this information useful!

Best regards,

Miguel L. Martins

How do I use my hdmi to vga converter on my envy 15

You can switch to an external monitor or data projector by two methods. 1. Connect the external monitor to the laptop's video port, power up the external monitor first and the laptop. The video information will automatically switch to the external monitor. 2. If you power up the laptop first then you can switch the video output to the external monitor by pressing the Fn key and one of the Function keys, depending upon your make and model laptop. You can also toggle between the external monitor or both LCD screen plus the external monitor or back to LCD screen only by pressing the Fn key plus one of the function key a few times. Here is a list of key combinations for some of the laptops :- IBM ThinkPad = Fn + F7 HP and Compaq = Fn + F4 Toshiba = Fn + F5 ASUS and Dell = Fn + F8

Most laptops have a "toggle":
* output video only to internal LCD screen,
* output video only to external HDMI port,
* output video to both internal & external.

Set the "toggle" to the best value.

Trying to hook up laptop with haier tv using vga

Dod you use HOTKEYS on the laptop to tell it to send the signal the VGA outlet of the laptop? The hotkeys function can be set to turn off the laptop screen and only have external monitor to be the only display or it can be set to have both of them on.

Want to use my tv as a monitor, how do I activate the vga output?

Hi adiazjr. On the Asus 1000he, in order to switch to an external monitor you need to press the function key (Fn) at the bottom left of the keyboard and the F8 key at the top. When you press both of these keys at the same time it will send the video signal to whatever external monitor or TV you have connected. Hope this helps!

I have a old computer (Dell) and a new flat screen (Dell) i hooked them up and the screen is black (won't work). It's a digital screen and a analog computer does this make a difference?

Not at all - as long as there is a VGA connection (analog) for the monitor, you're fine. Make sure that if you have a video card that you set your bios to automatically send the video signal through the card (where you'd hook your monitor cable to).

In some cases, if you have a video card, (and you're connected to the VGA output from the motherboard), the signal is bypassed and trying to go through the card automatically. If there is no card, disregard this last paragraph.

Have you tried booting into "Enable VGA" mode via the "Windows Advance Option" screen? By press F8 before Windows XP loading screen comes up. In this mode the Video Card drivers are disabled. So if your screen appears normal and not white in this Mode then it is your video card drivers which are causing the issue.

KWorld PC to TV Converter

I had the same problem. It turned out the issue was that I had the VGA Y-cable connectors between the PC and the KWorld box reversed. They look like they should be interchangeable, but they are not. A closer look at the cable connectors shows that one is marked "PC", one is marked "Monitor", and the 3rd is marked "SCAN CNVTR". Once I got them plugged into the right places, I got the screen image on the TV.
