Question about Radio Flyer Pathfinder Wagon

2 Answers

Not so much a problem, I just need ideas

I have a Radio Flyer Pathfinder Wagon and I want to be able to take it out on the beach with my kids, unfortunately the tires arn't built for sand. I was thinking about putting some kick *** tires on it and making it a really cool monster truck for them. Any suggestions on what kind of wheels/tires I can use (lawn mower, go-kart, etc) and how would I go about doing it. PS ... the wagon doesn't have axels, which makes this project even harder.

Any suggetions?

10"x 3.5" pneumatic tires on rims can be purchased locally at many stores for $6.00-15.00 each and these are the same size used on Radio Flyer models with all-terrain tires. They have 5/8" axle bores and can support 300 lbs. at 30 psi. The trick is modifying or replacing the factory 7/16" dia. spindles to receive the larger 5/8" bore wheels. You could consider securing them with cotter pins or hex nuts (if using a threaded rod). With larger tires, there are also slight clearance issues on the front caster spindles and wagon body at the rear wheels. With fab/weld capability and some technical savvy, you should be able to have a unique lightweight transporter of small kids and equipment that proudly does the job between the beach parking lot and water's edge. I say "unique" because looking all over the Internet, I haven't seen plans for modifying the Pathfinder for all-terrain tires and the manufacturer hasn't yet brought the two designs together. You're on your own from here, so good luck.

The front wheel of my radio flyer wagon will not turn. Any ideas how to fix this?

Sounds rusted, spray a little WD-40 on the axle where it meets the wheel. A small amount of household oil should also do the trick. After oiling, you may have to turn it by hand until the oil lubricates all around.

Where can I find a replacement handle for my Radio Flyer Classic Red Wagon? The number on the side is 89.

Radio Flyer has an excellent grass roots website and customer support team. Find them on the web, give them a call and they'll either get you a direct replacement or something that will work for your wagon. I had a problem with one of the wheels of our wagon which was discontinued. They sent a full set of replacement wheels; free. This is a great company. Just give them a call.

you can put a washer between the wagaon and the wheeler that ataches to the wagan so that its a little stiffer to turn but it wont stiffen up too much.it should stiffen enough so it doesnt turn when you go straight

Left front axel bent on Radio Flyer Pathfinder wagon

Parts are almost never avalable for toys like this. However, you should do this because it will be easy: Take the wheel off, and find a length of old waterpipe and put it over the axel. Get some neighbors or Auntie to try to hold the wagon in place and adjust the axle by bending using the leverage offered by the waterpipe. These axles are not that hard to bend, and you should be in good shape in no time.

Flat tires on Radio Flyer all terrain wagon

The trick is to spread out the sides of the tire so that they touch the side of the rim. That way, the air you pump in will fill the tire instead of coming out the sides.

This is how it's done: You will need a cargo strap with a ratchet. Sometimes these are referred to as a "come-along". It might take a few minutes to figure out how it works if you've never used one before, but what you wanna do is wrap the strap of the come-along around the circumference of the tire, and then tighten it. The tightening action will spread the sides of the tire and hold them there.

Good luck!
