Question about HP LaserJet 5p Printer

HP Laserjet 5P shading edges of page

Hi,
Our 5P is producing pages with a grey 'shadow' around 1.5 inches wide on the left of a page and another shadow of around 2.5 inches on the right of the page. We've replaced the toner inside the last 500 or 600 sheets with a new HP cartridge. All the printed text is nice and dark so I don't think it's a lack of toner. I've tried the HP cleaner utility software but can't get rid of the shadows. Any ideas?? These shadows or strips run the entire length of each page.

Thanks,
Jim

I presume the drum in the cartridge is the green cylinder. Is it supposed to have toner left on it??? Where is the transfer roll and the Charge roller??

    Thanks
    Jim

This is probably due to a defective cartridge, Charge Roller or Transfer roller.

Check the cartridge for a band of toner still on the drum.

Check the Charge roller for oil or smudges, this roller should be a lighter color and should be relatively free of toner or marks.

Same as the Transfer Roll, which will be dark, though excess toner should be evident.

A relatively smooth straight line is generally the cartridge.

A rather wavey or broken line is most likely the rollers.

You can however attempt to print a large amount of pages (25-50) in an attempt to clean the parts, however if either part is defective they will need to be replaced and no manner of printing will clean them.

Yip, its fuser film alright. You could pick up a fuser unit / kit from:

http://www.printersupplies.com/c-Laserjet3015Parts.html

and fix it yourself using the manual in this post:

Hi, I get a 1/2 inch light grey line on the right edge of all pages??

1. Change the toner, the vertical lines are usually due to scratches on the photosensitive drum inside the toner cartridge. Or
2. The internal mirror need to be cleaned. Use the brush (in the printer).

My hp laserjet 5p ..The printer prints grey and dark grey line about every 1.5 inches. it looks like it lightly duplicates what it has already printed, with every 1.5 inch pass.

Most common and easiest to check is the toner cartridge. Swap it out and see if it goes away. If not then it is in the fuser unit. The fusing unit is the part that gets hot and is located right before where the paper exits the machine.
If the bands go all the way across the page then the toner cartridge is much more likely.

LaserJet 5p extra page prints first with code

When you get that kind of information those are instructions to the printer. It has been my experience that the drivers loaded for the printer are not the correct ones. Check to make sure that you have the drivers for a HP 5P printer and verify that is what kind a printer you have.
