Question about Whirlpool 25.6 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator with In-Door-Ice Dispensing System

1 Answer

Ice maker can't release ice into dispenser - stays frozen

Have a Whirlpool Side by Side with Ice dispenser in the door. It makes ice, but it doesn't release it. If I turn off the freezer side and thaw it out, remove ice and turn it back on, it will make one or two batches of ice and then freeze again.

The heater in the icemaker that lets the ice drop out is broken and you need to replace the icemaker itself, your local appliance part store should have it in shock for about $50,your model number is inside the frig. top left-mike

Whirlpool model # ed5vhexvq1 side by side ...ice maker will not dispense ice..water works but it sounds as if there is no power going to icemaker from dispenser

Does the icemaker bucket has ice cubes. If yes then your problem is in the dispensor. If no ice cubes on the icemaker bucket then your problem is with the ice maker unit.

Let say Ice cubes on the ice maker bucket and dispensor makes noise when pressing for ice cubes. Then either your ice dispensor flapper is frozen or may be ice cubes in bucket may have defrost and frozen again sticking together.

Water and ice maker not working line frozen everything frozen even when you turn it down is it the termostat or what

It sounds like your ICE Dispenser door is stuck partway open. Defrost the access door, ice bucket and crusher then check the Ice Dispenser door to be sure it fully closes, otherwise cold air will constantly drift out and freeze the whole mechanism.

Icemaker not working, the water despencer is ok, so i know there is water coming in ,it is in on position, no ice is stuck, what do i look for? next move

When the ice is frozen hard the ice maker has a heater that activates so the ice can be released, the a rotating mechanism rotates to push the ice out of the ice maker. Then cycle starts again by dispensing water in the tray. A lot of times the ice maker itself is defective and must be replaced. They are just attached by two screws and plugs into the freezer plug.

Ice maker freezes but doesn't eject the ice

Check that the shute and door is not frozen shut. You can check the power to and from the dispenser switch with an ohmmeter, test-light, or voltmeter to make sure it is not faulty. You can get parts and manual at repairclinic.com or partselect.com
This is the two most common problems for this problem.
Other than the dispenser motor itself which can become faulty. Check power to this as well.

In door ice maker not working

In some cases, living in an area with extreme humidity, the ice dispenser door can stick open ( a small flap in the chute that delivers ice into the glass). This can cause a problem. The grinder in the dispenser sounds like it is frozen. Try using a HEAT GUN (hair dryer) on a low setting to defrost the dispenser DO NOT TRY TO MELT THE PLASTIC! Or a quicker solution, Unplug the refrigerator and pour water thru the dispenser CAN BE A MESS try to catch in a bucket or pan. Remove the dispenser from the door clean and dry as necessary and reinstall.

Try using cube ice to see if this helps. The occasional cup of cubes will dislodge stuck ground ice in the dispenser.

ABOVE ALL BE CAREFULL THE GRINDER CAN CUT YOUR FINGERS OFF. ELECTRIC SHOCK IS A DANGER AS WELL.

Ice maker will not dispense the ice

The auger motor and coupling in the rear may be frozen and won't turn.
Remove the ice bin.
Place a screwdriver or similar device in the forks of the auger and twist counterclockwise till it moves. The replace the ice bin and try again.
It will be difficult to move.
If that does not work. Turn off the fridge and use a hair dryer to hrat the auger gear and motor till it frees up.

Ice maker will not dispense the ice

When you press the lever to dispense the ice, there are multiple switches being activated. Chances are, the one that moves the motor to turn out the ice is bad. Or that motor itself is bad.
