Hello Dstills,
Seems to be problem with the spears .. however lets try few troubleshooting steps here.
1) Try altering the volume control on the speakers.
2) Try connecting the speakers to some other device like your TV's "Audio out port" or your Tape recorders "Audio out" port..check if the sound is coming through the speakers..
If no sound then the problem is with the speakers.

Thanks and Regards,
Srinivas

Have you confirmed the volume settings on the systray icon near the clock?

If you do not have a Speaker icon near the clock go to the control panel
Start > Control Panel
Or My Computer > Control Panel

And check your settings there in Sounds and Audio Devices, or related depending on your version of Windows.

Make sure that no options are muted.

Make sure that plugging headphones into the same port that your speakers are plugged into does not play sound as well. If the headphones do not play sound while in the Green Speaker port, then it is probably your software settings. If they do play sound then it is probably your speakers are dead or hardware muted (Check for a switch/button on satellites as well as sub-woofer if applicable..

If your speakers are unplugged look for a green port on the back of your computer and reconnect them. Confirm the settings above.

Let us know
Good luck.

Make sure the speaker volume is turned up and also go into Control Panel, Sounds and make sure nothing is muted and all volumes are turned up. Also make sure the speakers are plugged into the sound jack in the back of the pc. The speakers also need power but since the light is on, it sounds like they are plugged in.

Sound does not transfer from laptop to earphones when they are plugged in. Tested earphone and test was good. How do I get the sound to come out of the earphones instead of laptop?

I would guess there is a fault with with the earphone jack socket, the soldering to the printed circuit board or perhaps some of the electronic components that might or might not provide attenuation and/or tone correction for the earphones.

Probably be a cheaper cure to use bluetooth.

I use a usb FM transmitter so my sound files can be played on any nearby FM radio.

Earphone jack on my compaq presario c700 stopped working. How do I fix it?

You will need professional help on this, the laptop must be dismantled down to the motherboard level to access the problem. The earphone jack may have to be replaced and requires a high degree of solder skills to remedy the situation.

I cant hear anything without earphones

If you have left the earphone plugged in to the laptop for a long time, this may have bent the contacts in the socket, and stopped the speakers from working.

EARPHONES NOT ABLE TO PLUG INTO MONITOR.

Hi, I hope you've solved the problem.  But if the first solution does not work for you maybe this one will.

I looked at the specs for your monitor. LINE IN is for plugging in a device that makes sound, so this is not the right hole (called a jack) for the headphones plug.  Look on the back of your computer for a hole that is outlined with light green.  You wrote that you removed " the audio wire that connects the monitor to the CPU", this would be the place to plug in the headphones.

Earphones output is mono when plugged into a computer.

You're right - they should just plug in and work.

Some possibilities:

1. Open Volume Control on your computer - if you don't know any easier way, you'll get it from Start_All Programs_Accessories_Entertainment (in XP, at least). Once that's open, check that all the Balance sliders are in the middle of their travel.

2. See if matters improve if you fiddle with the plug - pulling it out a millimetre or two sometimes makes a difference, as can wiggling it from side to side.

3. Try other headphones on the computer - it may be that the sound card is faulty.

I have no sound on my HP Pavillion laptop

I had the same problem, but now its solved!

Brieftly speaking, my internal speaker stopped producing sound, but when I plug earphones in, there is sound in the earphones.

Just plug in-and-out ur earphones several times (it took me 5 tries) and voila internal speakers work again!

I think there is a mechanical sensor inside the sound output (plug for the earphone) so that once it senses a plug getting in, it shuts internal speaker.

Maybe the mechanical sensor was jammed (spring problem i guess) and it still believe that u have ur earphones plugged-in. "Clogging" the hole for the earphones would allow the spring to spring back to initial position...

Hope it helps
