Problem for RIM BlackBerry 7290

Just stopped working, cannot charge, red light only

I used my BB last night to text and make calls calls. Came downstairs this morning and appeared to be no power- tried to charge it but absolutely nothing happened- have tried another charger- no joy. Just has red light on the top- do I need to send it away for repair?

It could need a new battery. It doesn't sound like it's holding a charge anymore.
