Problem for Alesis MasterLink ML-9600

Upon turning on our Masterlink, it read "LOAD OS".

the mfg suggested a new Harddrive; which I installed. but noticed an electrical short (frying sound). Had electrical problem repaired last week.
Now, the CD drive won't open so I can load the OS.

this is the error I'm getting when I turn on:
FATAL ERROR HD ERROR 178 (then this fades out). but this appears & remains:

HDCD to Reset
HD ERROR 178

I would greatly appreciate some assistance on this.

if you are computer savy, you can disassemble the masterlink and test the cd drive in another computer. if it works, check the power connector to the cd drive. switch it with the hd connector to see if it fires up.
