Question about Westell Wirespeed VersaLink (A99-327W11-00) Router (A99327W1100)
Check if your dell wireless card is properly installed. to do so, right click on the MY COMPUTER icon on your desktop (or click start > right click my computer), then click on properties. Click on the hardware tab and go to device manager. a small box will appear which will list all of the hardware installed on your computer. click on the positive (+) sign beside network adapter, and make sure that it will show your dell wireless 1397 wlan card without any exclamation point or question mark beside it. if it does have the yellow ! or ? beside it, it means it's not properly installed or it's not yet installed so you might have to use the cd to install it. If you don't have the cd, download the driver from this site, http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R189133&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=259099 (xp).
if it is, make sure that your laptop is detecting your network from your westell 327w. to check, click start, connect to and click on wireless connections. on the wireless connections window, click on the name of your network and disconnect (if its connected already) and try to connect again.
if this doesn't solve the problem, try to click on START > RUN and on the pop up box, type in NCPA.CPL. on the network connections window, right click on the active wireless connection and click on properties. click once on tcp/ip settings to highlight the item and click on properties on the lower portion of the box. on the general tab, make sure that obtain ip address and obtain dns server is set to automatic. click on the alternate configuration tab and make sure that it's set to automatic as well.
