A common problem when this happens is that the speakers are mistakenly plugged into the mic port. If this isn't the case, double click on the speaker icon in your systray (located lower right hand corner next to the time display). Ensure that the "Mute" is not on or that the "Master Volume" is not on zero. Other than this, there's a chance you don't have power going to your speakers.
