I have the stairmaster 4000pt which was bought new in 2003. in 2007, i started experiencing the same problem, the right pedal would sometime slip and fall to the floor. i called the local fitness store and they came and replaced the hub assembly and that resolved the problem until now. The left pedal is now slipping.

Both pedals slip?

When both pedals slip at the same time, it is more likely to be the alternator brushes than it is to be the hub assembly. Check this link for a brush replacement video. I am also attaching a troubleshooting video for no resistance on a 4600PT.

Stairmaster climber model 4600 pt pedals go all

Unplug dc power connection then remove right side panel check for loose connections on on alternator, check distance of speed sensor to speed sensor disc you should no more than 3 credit card distance between them. Next remove the black wire from the B+ terminal on the alternator, then remove the brown wire from the field terminal on the alternator.Place a short wire with alligator clips between B+ and field terminals start stepping for about 10 to 15 second you should full resistance in that case its the upper console that if not replace alternator
