I was driving earlier today and all was well with my M8800 however after nipping in my house to get changed, I come out and the inside display is no longer working!
The outside display is fine and all buttons still work, just when the panel is down I cannot see what track is on etc...
I do not have a remote so using the outside display is proving difficult.
Any ideas as to what could be causing this and how to fix it?
Thanks in advance!
Yes probably the ribbon it may not look broken the copper circuits are thin and the ribbon coating hides it so you may not see the break ...you could wait and see if problem spreads to the outside display if so then definatly the ribbon ....

hi, okay you got to be careful here, it's sounds like the power supply has called it a day, disconnect from the mains take the side panel off and get sniffling can you smell a burn smell , no , now pull the power leads from the hard disk and DVD drive if fitted now removing anything that could cause a short on the board , turn it on, do you get video display ?
Please be careful of static shock and mains shock so only look inside once it disconnected from the mains. Keep me updated please.
There is a ribbon cable that runs all the flip panels electrics, these are prone to breakage. I have seen some of the cables on e-bay for a few quid, and also if you google "sony x-pod ribbon cable" you will get a big choice of places to order, and get instructions on fitting.
if the remote makes it work and it plays ....if all functions work other than display check for bad solder joints on the display pay attention to the ones on the corners if the unit is or was a tight fit in the dash its possible that the unit got a little stress and broke loose from the board .... if there is a white powder look in the display it probably bad... the silvery black in the corners is normal
