Question about Polaroid Televison & Video

My polaroid 32"LCD TV has no picture

I bought this in Mexico Sam's Club, have it hooked up to a voltage regulator, and after a brief brown out, my screen no longer displays. The TV can be turned on and off, but nothing but a black screen. I suspect the florescent lamp is blown and I would like to try to procure the part myself to repair.

    Hi-

Thanks for your reply. As I mentioned above, this LCD is in Mexico - and, I'm in Seattle! The warranty has expired. Therefore, I am keen to troubleshoot myself, and procure the likely part and fix myself. I realize that this voids any warranty, but if I have to invest several hundred dollars to repair in the out skirts of the Riviera Maya, then I might as well just get a new set.

So...how can you help me figure out what is likely the problem, then source (myself) any requisite replacement parts?

Hi, as u told that the TV can be turned on/off but only black screen appears. Then there might be problem with the Florrescent Lamp or IC. I have the same problem with my TV.I called the Mechanic for repairing it as it is not safe enough to repair it myself. So my advice would be to call the mechanic.Rest is upto u whether u want to take the risk. Thanks! Sandy

This actually seems to be a fairly common problem with these and other brands of LCD's. The first thing you should try is a hard reset. Unplug the tv before going to bed then plug it back in tomorrow the morning (Or about 6 hours). If this doesn't work you have an essential failure which will need repair. The two main causes of the type of problem you are having is either a poor solder connection right on the board where the screens connects to the TV, or the second ,a faulty LCD Panel. By the description you have given me it is just a poor solder connection. Of course there is no way to guarantee it's not the LCD Panel itself without looking at it for you.
Either way it will need to be attended to by a technician if the reset fails. I recommend checking the warranty information that came with the unit to see if there is any way you can recoup some or all of the cost of a repair which will be needed.

Check and replace the main power regulator board. Components on it have been burned due to voltage fluctuation. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Viewing it in "Mosaic" will make surf easy.

32' polaroid lcd tv. no picture when you turn the set on the light turns green but i get no picture.

Possible that the voltage is not supplied to the drive board, Check the line of the +B to the main board as the controller is working as well as the power supply.
It is possible that a fusible resistor has opened out in advance but if you can trace this on.
However if you get voltage on the convergence Ic's then it might be defective in not supply the drive.

No picture on 32" Polaroid

Your inverter boards need to be tested and serviced, these are circuits designed to control the light behind the LCD glass panel. It could also be the power supply not feeding 24volts too the inverter circuits. In that case the power board would need servicing.

Take it back if its under warranty if not get it serviced at your local repair center..

10V 450uf cap in high Voltage section... replace both not just the one. Caps tend to dry out and cause short on nearby regulator if left go too long. Do not continue to run the TV without replacing the caps first that are leaky. They are the Larger of all Electrolytics on high voltage board and manuf is Sanyo Brown with silver stripe. Typically the bottom of the two caps goes first.

Screen black. polaroid tv 32". have sound TV/DVD Combo TDA-03211C

sounds like inverter board. What it sounds like is happing is your LCD is working ut the backligkt board that allows you to see is kicking off. (as you still have sound) Which could be the (most likely) inverter board, or the power supply board. You can take apart and check for voltage at your power supply. The power supply has a pigtail with large white wires and a connector. Power up with the center back cover off and check your voltage at the white connector on the power supply before and after the screen gos out. If there is no large voltage loss it is your inverter board.

The tuner section, and or the voltage regulator circuit that supplies it is probably failing. The service rep for your set may be able to order a new tuner module and install it. This is not a type of repair you can do yourself.
