Yes, you simply need to buy a 20-24 pin adaptor lead for about 3.99.

DX4820 power supply


To my knowledge, the Power Supply used is just the common ATX form factor design.

Approximately 6 Inches Wide, 5-1/2 Inches Long, and 3-1/2 Inches Tall.

Needs these power cables;

A) 24-pin ATX main power cable
Newer power supply's come with a 20 + 4-pin ATX main power cable.

That is so the power supply can be used on a motherboard, that needs a 20-pin, OR a 24-pin ATX main power cable.

B) 4-pin ATX +12 Volt power cable.
Often referred to as an ATX12V power cable.

[Note color of power cable connectors does NOT matter ]

Note the Lock on the side of the power cable's connector, and matching Tab on the motherboard connector.
The 20 + 4-pin ATX main power cable, and matching motherboard connector; has this type of Lock/Tab also.


C) Needs at least 2 SATA power cables.
The Harddrive is a SATA unit, and I believe the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) is too.

Check to see if the problem is the Power On switch, or the Power Supply.
Bypass the Power On switch.

The SuperMicro P4DL6 motherboard can use a 20-pin ATX main power cable, OR a 24-pin ATX main power cable.

Suggest you use a Power Supply, that has a 24-pin ATX main power cable.
Why?
A 20-pin ATX main power cable, does NOT provide enough power to the motherboard.

3.3 Volts (Orange), 5 Volts (Red) { 2 of them }, and a Ground wire. (Black)

Which type of ATX main power cable are you using? Don't know. You haven't stated it.

For both,....look at the Green wire. This is the Soft Power On wire.
(Abbreviated as PS_ON)
A jumper wire is used to jump from the Green wire, to ANY Black wire.
ALL Black wires are Ground wires.

Go to the link with the 24-pin ATX main power cable, in it.
Look at the photo to the far right. See the Green wire?
See all the Black wires?

The preferred jumper wire is a paper clip, straightened out, then bent into a U-shape. The middle of the U is wrapped a few times, with black plastic electrical tape. This taped area is for your fingers, and thumb to hold onto.

Turn the U over. Taped middle is up. There are now two 'legs'.
These legs go down into the socket holes, of the Green wire, and ANY Black wire.

One 'leg' down into the socket hole of the Green wire, the other 'leg' down into a socket hole with ANY Black wire.
The 'leg' of the jumper wire, goes down RIGHT NEXT TO the wire already in the socket hole.

The 'leg' has to go down into the socket hole, (Next to the wire already in the socket hole), pretty far.
It has to go past the insulation of the wire, and touch a metal terminal, that is on the end of the wire.

Look at the middle photo. Here you can see the metal terminals, in the socket holes.

Again, Power Supply plugged into power. ATX main power cable plugged into the motherboard, just like the photo to the far right.
The jumper wire makes a contact of no more than 2 seconds.

(Stick the jumper wire down in the socket holes, no more than 2 seconds, then pull it out.
The ATX power on switch is a Momentary Contact Switch )

Power supply comes on? You have a bad Power On switch,

Ahem, you just posted 20 + 4-pin.

That means it can be a 20-pin ATX main power cable, OR a 24-pin ATX main power cable.

Most power supply's now have a 20 + 4-pin power cable.

Use the 20-pin connector, or add the additional 4-pin connector, to make a 24-pin ATX main power cable.

For the power cables from the Power Supply? Or Power Supply, and Front Panel header on the motherboard?

For both of these you need to state the computer manufacturer name, and Model Number.

If you just wish a generic, one-size-fits-all explanation;

A) 20 or 24-pin ATX main power cable.

The older computers use a 20-pin ATX main power cable. As computers needed more power to the motherboard, the 24-pin ATX main power cable was brought out,

B) 4-pin ATX +12 Volt power cable.
Was brought out because Processors needed more power, than the 24-pin ATX main power cable feeding the motherboard, could deliver.

C) 4-pin standard Peripheral power cable
Commonly misnomered as 'Molex'.

Molex was a model name given by the first manufacturer, of this design of power cable connector.
The name stuck. Kind of like referring to an adjustable open-end wrench as a Crescent wrench.

It is also referred to as a 4-pin Standard Peripheral power cable, because there are two styles of 4-pin Peripheral power cables.

Generally used for IDE (PATA) harddrives, and IDE optical drives.


4-pin Small Peripheral power cable,

Older computers used it for power to the Floppy Drive. It's generally used now to provide power for a Card Reader.

Note that both types of connectors use the same power wires, and 2 ground wires.
Yellow is 12 Volts
Red is 5 Volts
Black is Ground

[ Also, in the ATX main power cable:
Orange is 3.3 Volts, the Green wire is the Soft Power On wire. Abbreviated as PS_ON.

Power Supply plugged into power, the Soft Power On wire is briefly touched to ANY Ground wire. This is bypassing the Power On switch.
If the computer (Power Supply) comes on, you have a bad Power On switch.
IF the computer (Power Supply) does NOT come on, you have a bad Power Supply ]

(ALL Black wires are Ground wires. They all lead back to one central Ground point.
ALL power wires lead back to one point in the power supply, for EACH power wire.

The 12 Volt power wires, (Yellow), all lead back to one point in the Power Supply.
This is the 12 Volt power rail.

The 5 Volt power wires, (Red), all lead back to one point in the Power Supply.
This is the 5 Volt power rail.

The 3.3 Volt power wires, (Orange), all lead back to one point in the Power Supply.
This is the 3.3 Volt power rail ]

D) SATA power cable
15-pin power cable for SATA harddrives, and SATA optical drives,

[ The smaller 7-pin SATA connector is the interface cable, or data cable.

IF, you have a SATA harddrive that has a provision for a SATA power cable, AND a 4-pin standard Peripheral power cable, ONLY use the SATA power cable.

It will burn out the harddrive if you use both. It may not do it right away, but eventually it will.
I have had people state over the years, that they were using both power cables. Came back two months later to tell me their harddrives had burned out ]

What pins are the switch to turn on power supply continuously


Pins 16 and 17 for a 24-pin ATX main power cable connector, and Pins 14 and 15 for a 20-pin ATX main power cable connector.

Just remember; The Green wire is the Soft Power On wire, (PS_ON)

ANY Black wire is a Ground wire.

A jumper wire is used briefly to touch the green wire to ANY black wire.

The preferred jumper wire is a paper clip because of it's size. (Diameter)

The jumper wire goes down into the BACK of the connector, RIGHT NEXT TO THE EXISTING WIRE that is already in there.

The BACK of the connector is where the wires go in. (In the links above look at the photo to the far right)

The 24-pin, or 20-pin ATX main power cable, is plugged into the motherboard.
The Power Supply is plugged into power.

The jumper wire goes down into the socket hole, right next to the existing wire, and far down in the socket hole.
It has to touch a metal terminal that is in the FRONT of the connector.
Each wire going into that connector has a metal terminal at the end of it.

Black plastic electrical tape is wound around the middle of the U shaped paper clip.

Use the jumper wire and the Power Supply comes on?
You have a bad Power On switch.

Power Supply does Not come on?
You have a bad Power Supply

Missing power supply. First, thanks to fredtmccoyjr for the boot fix. the BIOS update from A06 to A09 actually allows me to enable boot from harddisk in the settings, instead of settign a useless tick on...


It was the 1996 to 2000 time frame, that Dell was proprietary with the 20-pin ATX main power cable, and the matching connector on the mobo. (MOtherBOard).

Standard 20-pin ATX main power cable, and it's corresponding connector should work, then add the 4 power wires that are missing, in a separate connector.

To expound:

View this standard 20-pin ATX main power cable, and it's respective connector,

The power wires should be in the same place as your P3 units.

(Match the color codes.
Use the lock tab on the 20-pin ATX main power cable connector, to base where the pins are.

Pins 1 though 20. Match the color code of the wires to the pins, and use the chart to compare)

Here is a view of a standard 24-pin ATX main power cable, and it's respective connector, so you can see what power wires are missing, from the 20-pin ATX main power cable connector, that are present in the 24-pin ATX main power cable connector.

The P4, or also stated as the 4-pin ATX +12 Volt power cable, uses two Yellow (12 Volt) wires, and two Black wires, (Ground)

Since you don't have the male connector, be sure to orient in your mind where the Yellow (12 Volt) wires go, and the Black (Ground) wires go, by looking at the lock tab on the side of the female connector, on the motherboard, and comparing it to the photo.

Transfer this info, to the P4 connector you are going to make.

Where to get the power wires you need? Connect to any extra 4-pin Peripheral power cable wires, or splice off of ones that are in use, is one suggestion.

My evolution 3000 been occasionally powering down for no apparent reason for a couple of weeks. now completely died. no power at all. won't switch on or show any life.


Power Supply's have a Form Factor. (Actually only motherboards do, but most Power Supply's follow the motherboard Form Factor)

The ATX designation determines it's size, shape, and factors concerning the various power cables coming out of it, (Spaghetti), plus other concerns.

An ATX power supply shape is generally close to 6 inches long, (15.24 Centimeters), 6 inches wide, and 3-1/2 inches tall.
(8.89 Centimeters)

It is the common size and shape used for 90 percent of the personal computers made, out there.

From what I have been reading about Evesham, they used typical power supply cables used for most ATX power supply's.

Basic specifications on the Evesham Evolution 3000 desktop computer,

Power Cables:

1) Don't know if the Power Supply will have a 20-pin ATX main power cable, or a 24-pin ATX main power cable.

In reality the point is moot, because new power supply's have a main power cable which will be a 20-pin connector, or a become a 24-pin connector.

How to use ATX-250-12z SMPS with 24 pin


Chances are that 250w power supply is not going to power a motherboard with a 24 pin connector, but you can try.
You will need to purchase a 20 to 24 pin adapter cable.
