Question about Washing Machines

No high speed spin due to no door lock acuation. Wax motor was replaced. What else could be wrong?

I do not get the door lock indication on my maytage neptune frontloader washer, which prevents the high speed spin. I overrode the door lock relays and was able to get the high speed spin. I replaced the Wax Motor, and still do not get the door lock indication. I should have checked the voltage input to the wax motor, but did not know the value. Do you have that voltage input? And is there another common problem I am not aware of?

Maytag Neptune front loader door latch won't release

rewpa, 98% chance the door latch has stuck in the locked position. Yes, follow Maytags suggestion to access the "rip cord" for the door latch... (this is the mechanical override for it) to get the door open. After it's open, run another load of wash and see if it happens again. If it does, it is the door latch assy. that's the problem. BTW, the door lock light is activated by a switch in the door latch assy. There's a "motor" in the assy... it's made of WAX! Yes, a "wax motor". Before the computer goes into spin, it sends 120V to this motor. The electricity heats the wax and it expands. As it expands, it pushes a plunger forward. This plunger trips both the door lock AND the switch. This sends the signal to the door light AND the computer saying "I'm locked! Go ahead and Spin!" When the cycle is complete, the computer drops the voltage to the wax motor. The wax cools off and contracts. This retracts the plunger... opening the door and shutting off the light. So... if this light stays on, the plunger is still extended and can be overridden using the rip cord. If this happens again, let me know and I'll step you through disassembly and replacement of the wax motor.

Maytag Neptune Front Load Washers Wax Motor Replacement

The wax motor needs to be replaced and the control board requires repair or replacement should your Maytag Neptune Front Load Washer fails to advance to the high speed spin cycle and the "door locked" light is not turned on. This is a common issue that led the filing of a class suit against Maytag Corporation in 2004. Disconnect power to the machine prior to servicing to avoid the risk of electric shock that can lead to physical injury, disability, and even death.

Access to the wax motor for replacement requires the removal of the front panel and the top cover. Once the two are removed, disconnect the wires from wax motor terminals then pry the spring clip off and take the wax motor out. Take note of the wax motor position before removing it from the door latch assembly to make sure you fit the new wax motor properly later on. One simple and effective way to do it is by taking a picture of the door latch assembly prior to removal of any component.

Fit in the new wax motor and make sure the shaft is properly seated into the slot provided on the latch axle and secure it firmly with the spring clip provided. Reinstall the top cover and the front panel back into position once the wax motor is properly installed.

Maytag Neptune Front Load Washers No Spin Problem

A class suit was filed in the State of Illinois, USA and then later on won against Maytag in 2004 due to the high failure rate of the wax motor used in the door lock mechanism of their Neptune Front Load Washers. The wax motor is used to activate the door lock switch by extending its shaft when a voltage from the machine control is applied across its terminals. Its failure then leads to the breaking down of components in the expensive machine control board. This is the fact that angered the customers which led to the filing of the class suit.

The obvious symptom of a failed wax motor is the inability of the washer to advance to the spin cycle and the door lock lamp is not turned on. The washer stops momentarily at the end of the wash cycle then continue to tumble as the machine control checks the activation of the door lock switch. The control will not allow a spin speed higher than 51 revolutions per minute (RPM) unless the door lock switch is activated by the wax motor. It is a safety feature of the washer to prevent accident due to accidental opening of the washer door during a high speed spin.

Customers who purchased the Neptune Front Load Washers in the USA after April 1, 1997 and before August 9, 2004 are Class members and eligible for the repair reimbursement, replacement cost, or purchase certificate depending on the length of service of the machine. Call up Maytag at 1-888-MAYTAG (1-888-629824) for more information.

The models included in the class suit are as follows: MLE2000AYW, MLE2000AWW, MLE2000AZW, MLG2000AWW (Gas Stack Unit), MAH3000AAW, MAH3000AEW, MAH3000AGW, MAH3000AWA, MAH3000AWW, MAH3000BGW, MAH4000AWW, MAH4000BWW, MAH4000AWQ, MAH4000BWQ, MAH5500AWW, MAH5500BWW, MAH5500BWW, MAH5500BWQ, MAH55FLBWW, MAH55FLBWQ, MAH6500AWW, MAH6500AWQ, MAH7500AWW, MAH7500AWQ, MAH7550AAW, MAH7550AGW.

What is the value of R-11 in the maytag ,MAH4000 AWW it's in the door lock wax motor for the hinh speed spin

The R-11 is on the control board, not in the door lock or wax motor. Value is 3.9KOhm, plus you'll need to replace the Q6 triac if R-11 is burnt out, as it's also dead.

Maytag washer #MAH400AWW drains water fine but will not go into high speed spin cycle

Your washer uses a wax motor door latch assembly with a high failure rate that led to the filing of class suit against Maytag in 2004. The failure of the wax motor results in a no spin problem.

Verify first if the door lock light is on. If not, the wax motor failed and resistor R11 and transistor Q6 on the machine control board also failed. Replace the wax motor and R11 and Q6.

Most technicians will advise you to replace the machine control board and not just the wax motor. But replacing them is not a difficult task. You just need to know how to solder and desolder.

When you opt to ask a technician to repair your machine, insist that only the wax motor, R11 and Q6 must be replaced, not the entire control board. The service will cost you about $300.

Do not hesitate to inform me if you want to do the repair yourself for the complete disassembly and repair procedure.

out of curiosity why did you replace the wax motor?? did you also replace the machine control board behind the console??? usually thats the issue with this machine is one or the other goes bad and recommend fix is to replace both.A quick visiuall check will determine if htis needs replacing as well, theres athermisotr the blows out). you say you get power to the wax motor, so it should then energize pushing forward into the next to switches, firs one locks door and put on indicator light, the second is actually the spin switch that needs to be activated for the machine to enter a high speed spin

No Locked Light

does the washer actually go into high speed spin? if not the wax motor in the door lock may be no good. that would prevent the door from locking and the indicator on the display would not light.
