Awful, simply awful especially for the money I paid for it. I have not been able to transfer a single video to this @#$%^ thing.

You would think that if there was a problem the company "Sony" would be kind enough to post it. This player is a piece of @#$%^.

When you connect this mp3 player it shows up in my computer as portable storage. Sony's website has a list of supported formats for this player and i usually convert using Handbrake to the ipod format or using wondershares video converter (it actually has a walkman setting). I then can drag it to the video folder and it plays flawlessly. The software i'm guessing you are talking about is the walkman media manager. When it loads click the film looking tab at the top for video. On the top of the bar to the left click the + symbol that shows add shortcut and find the folder with your media in it. Your files will start to show and if they aren't compatible they will have a red circle on them with a slash through it. If they don't have this you can right click them and select transfer. support site is http://esupport.sony.com/CA/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=NWZA726

What kind of video format is Sony Walkman friendly?

This is very common considering the wide range of video formats out there. Use a video converter to get the stream down to a common frame rate. Google to find a converter and good frame rate for hand held players,

Sony has software that is a drag and drop content transfer and should convert files to make them compatible but I haven't had much success with it.

2. download ur files then plug ur walkman in and then go to start- my computer- walkman- storage media- video
3.go to start-my documents- then try to find ur .mp4 video (it mightby inthe my videos file or if u downloaded a converter like theDaniusoftvideo converter its gonna be in that file)
4. drag and drop the video file to video on ur walkman and ur done!

same thing with pictures except u go to pictures instead of videos and then drag and drop the file

Cannot play videos

Use Sony's content transfer to transfer the video. In the settings, select the automatic conversion of the video when you drag an drop it using content transfer. This worked for me with Windows 7 and an upgraded device firmware to version 1.0.1. Both Sony's Content Transfer 1.3 and firmware version 1.0.1 can be found on Sony's website.

Here is the info from Sony:
Is it possible to drag and drop music from the Apple® iTunes® software to the portable player using the Content Transfer Application? Solution
sp.gif sp.gif Yes, if you have iTunes software installed, you can transfer music and playlists from iTunes software to the Walkman® player by dragging and then dropping the files to the Content Transfer application.
NOTES:
  • The Content Transfer application supports data transfer from iTunes software 7.6 or 7.7 to the Walkman player.
  • The Content Transfer application supports data transfer from iTunes software 8.0. However, for playlist transfer from iTunes software 8.0 to the Walkman player, make sure you are using the latest version of the Content Transfer application. The latest version can be downloaded from the Sony Support Web Site at http://esupport.sony.com
  • Digital Rights Management (DRM) copyright-protected files are not supported. iTunes music files may be able to be upgraded to iTunes Plus music files, which do not contain DRM.
  • Do not disconnect the USB connection during data transfer.
  • If there is insufficient free space on the portable player, the data cannot be transferred.
  • The Content Transfer application is included with most newer Walkman Video players. It also is available for additional models in the NWZ-A, NWZ-E, and NWZ-S series. Some models may require an update to be compatible. Additional model-specific information can be found in the Drivers & Software section of the Sony Support Web Site at http://esupport.sony.com.

Transfer videos to my sony nwz-s616f

Firstly; is it in the right format? You say MP4, but the video needs to be specifically MP4 - 320x240 screen resolution. It won't play if the resolution is incorrect.

So get that fixed up first if that's what's wrong (http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/ has a great program to convert videos to MP4). If not, sometimes my computer doesn't allow me to put files on it one way, but it will another, so try copy/paste instead of drop and drag. Hope that helps.
