Question about Fujitsu Siemens AMILO Pro V2010 Notebook

C Drive Access Denied and The Parameter is Incorrect

Yeah so basically i keep getting those two error messages popping up everywhere i go! everytime i try to alter anything to do with anything on my C drive it blocks me telling me access is denied, and when i try to open things such as "regedit" it comes up with the parameter message. Some programmes such as MS word and Windows Live Messenger wont function correctly but some such as Firefox and Picasa do.

Have conducted a full scan on Norton and AVG both come up with nothing.

  • IKnowsAll Apr 14, 2009

no new programmes, cant do anything with the C drive aside from open files from targeted directories,
did a system restore back to about 2 weeks ago, to no avail,
was using AVG to shred some unwanted files about 2 days before this started,
    "The Parameter is Incorrect"

  • IKnowsAll Apr 14, 2009

aaah yeah i went to that and gave ownership back to myself, however i still cant open it!

i have noticed something else, according to the propperties the C drive is blank and has no memory capacity

  • IKnowsAll Apr 14, 2009

Any new programs...if so...did you delete them?

Can you delete them with the C: drive block?

Can you do a System Restore?

Any other changes since you used to have full access to the C: drive?

    Parameter is "What" error? Incorrect?

  • M Nelson
    M Nelson May 11, 2010

OK ... In BIOS...go to "Security" See if there are any passwords...like a hard drive password. But I'm thinking this isn't it...hmmm

  • M Nelson
    M Nelson May 11, 2010

  • M Nelson
    M Nelson May 11, 2010

I found this on a Vista Forum: Re: Access to C Drive
I figured it out -- you have to take ownership of the drive away from
the "TRusted Installer" account, which can be used only by Windows, and
assign it to one of your administrator accounts. AVG did this! So now your C: drive can be accessed by "Trusted Installer" and not you. You are an Administrator so you need to go to permissions and assign the C: drive to you and NOT the "Trusted Installer"

Can you delete AVG? You have to kill it.

You should nuke Norton too, Norton is aweful.

Here is a quote from a Vista Forum:

""This sounds serious, but try checking a Vista report for specific errors and
corrective measures to take: Click on Start (icon) and select All Programs.
Then, select Maintenance > Problem Reports and Solutions. When that report
opens, select from among the Tasks on the left margin and elsewhere. Peruse
the report and look for any specific information about what caused your
problem (or other problems while you're at it). If you get some insight from
the report, take the corrective action suggested in the report. Just
something to try, since Vista logs errors and hopefully it will in this case.""

This link takes you to a Vista Forum where the entire problem is described before the user got the "The Parameter is Incorrect" message.

You WON'T need a new laptop! There is a recovery partition that allows you to make a recovery disk...although...I haven't seen any rave reviews on the recovery disk.

Worst case senario...You have to reinstall Vista. You laptop is fine, your Operating System stinks.

Problem installing windows XP

This is going to be either a bad disc or a bad hard drive. Do a hard drive test in the bios, if any part of it fails, then you will need to replace the hard drive. If the hard drive passes, then try a different operating system disc.

Fatal error message

Hi all,

The error happens if your installation did not finish completely and you didnt have complete access and permission to the system(even though you are an administrator). Run the access denied tool by hp by clicking on the link http://tinyurl.com/5u2pg three times. uninstall the software and reinstall again. If this dosent work you will have to manually change the permissions in the registery.

hope this helps!
cheers

Accessing a folder.

This will sound off the wall, but we had something similar to this happen with my last laptop, where it was "access denied" in lots of areas, and we would have to find little backdoor ways to get into control panel and document files. The problem with our computer was that it had previously crashed, and we had rebooted and reinstalled the xp, but didn't have the registration number, so it would run ok, but to get into all those access denied things (which you eventually need to get into) we had to come up with our registration number.
Did it prompt you to enter the product key when you re-installed it?
