Question about Sony Xplod XM-554ZR Car Audio Amplifier

Power Protection Light Will Not Switch Back to Green

I have a Sony XM-554ZR Xplod 600 Watt 4-channel amplifier running two subs and a set of 6 x 9s. I went to tune the amp the other day and everything was working just fine but as I began to tune it the power protection light turned to red and will not turn back to green. I have checked the fuses in the amp, the interior of the car, and in the battery, but they were all fine. I even unwired the amps inputs and rewired them again, as well as readjusted the ground but still the same problem. Do you know what I could do to get the light to switch back to green?

Disconnect all speakers, then turn the amp on. If there is no internal problem with the amp, it will go green. If it does go green, reconnect your speakers one at a time with the amp off then turn it on. when you connect the speaker that's causing the problem, the amp will go into protection. At this point, it's one of two things, a bad speaker wire (screw thru it or touching another terminal) or a bad speaker(burnt voice coil) to test that wire, disconnect the wire at the speaker and turn on the amp, if it's still green, all's well in the wire department. Meter the speaker with a multimeter on resistance, if it's blown the meter will read 1.... If you don't have a meter, connect the speaker that's having the problem to the other channel and test again, if it goes into protection, you've got your answer. Bad speaker. Hope this helps

If the Sony amp (I'm not familiar with that one) has its own crossover and subwoofer output, use that, and set your crossover point for what sounds best to you. Honestly, it is best to have a SEPARATE two-channel amplifier & crossover for the 10" subs. Whatever you do, make sure you use a large capacitor (2 Farad or more) at the power input of the amplifier for the subs. This will help prevent blown fuses. (It is also a good idea to use at least a 1 Farad capacitor at the power input of the amplifier for the other four speakers.)

Is the sony xplod cdx-gt71w able to support a subwoofer without another amp

Sure is.

The sony is bridgable as follows:

  • 100W x 4 @ 4 Ohm
  • 100W x 2 + 250W x 1 @ at 4 Ohm

  • This will allow 2 channels to run 100 watts each @ 4ohms with an additional single channel with 250 watts @ 4 ohms.

The single sub channel is created by bridging channels 3 & 4

Unless it is a 4 channel then you will have to run them in series. Keep in mind that you will only have mono sound.

I have a Xplod XM-554ZR Car Amp and the green light is blinking it worked just befor and now i have no sound

The amp is in protection. Disconnect any speaker from it, then turn it back on, if it's not flashing, check your speakers with a meter and check speaker wires for shorts. If it's still flashing, you've blown the protection circuit and it needs to be replaced or repaired. Hope this helps

sounds like maybe a speaker short, try unhooking your speakers and then powering up your amp, if it then powers up with the speakers unhooked try hooking up each speaker one by one untill the amp goes back into protection and then you have your bad speaker.

    Red light

something is shorted in the circuit, or your subs. unhook the subs first and try it again, if it is still in protect then it is most likely the output transistors.
