Question about Dishwashers

How to remove dishwasher temporarily

I need to pull out my Miele Diamante dishwasher to seal off where ants are entering the house. The dishwasher came with the house and I do not have an owners manual. The only model identification I could find, by lying on the floor with a flashlight, is 04904740. How do I safely remove and replace the dishwasher?

There are two places that a dishwasher is normally fixed to the counter/cabinets.
1.) When you open the door fully and look under the counter top where the top of the open dishwasher meets the bottom of the counter top, there are likely two brackets connected to the dishwasher and screwed up into the bottom of the counter top.  Removing those screws is the first step.  If the dishwasher can be swiveled out a few inches, you are almost done.  If it still does not move:
2.) Many dishwashers are also secured to the cabinets through the left and right edges of the DW door edge.  Look for screws sunk into the door jam and remove them.
Before you pull the dishwasher out, recommend that you remove the lower panel (kick plate) so you can see what is going on as you slide the dishwasher out slowly.  Lifting with your hands inside the top of the dishwasher is better than pulling on the dishwasher door.
Hope that helps.  When I pull a dishwasher to clean and seal, I also at a mouse "disc" (not a mouse trap), plus an anti-ant and roach gel thingy.  See you hardware store for something that lasts quite a long time.
Good Luck!

There is a bad mould build up on the inside seal of my Miele Novotronic W828, Can you help, the smell is terrible, flows through the house.

You need to wipe the seal down with vinegar. Mold needs water to grow. Have you looked at the bottom of the dishwasher after a cycle to see if you have standing water? While you are looking clean the filter.

Miele intake valve

Dishwasher Not Leveled

This is a very common reason for a leaking dishwasher especially if this was a new installation. The framing in a dishwasher is made up of mostly thin sheet metal, so if it is not sitting flat and level things can get distorted very easily. Watch the video on leveling diswasher

Door Seal

This is not very common in most dishwashers. To check this look for rips and distortion of the seal. If it is ripped or distorted you will need to replace.

Dispenser Seal

This is a more common place for a leak to develop. This is easy to check, remove the front panel and carefully inspect around the seal for water dripping or stainage. If any is found replace dispenser gasket.

Water Inlet Valve

Usually it is the connection to the water inlet valve that ends up leaking. Check this connection ( there is usually some sort of adaptor between the valve and supply hose) for leaks. Check the connection on the back of the water inlet valve also. Ocassionaly a water inlet valve will leak around the solenoid in this case replace water inlet valve

Drain / Circulating Pump

Some dishwashers have separate drain and circulate pumps Some use one pump to serve both purposes. In either case you will need to check the housings for leaks along with all the connections. Some dishwashers have a seal that leaks down into the pump . This is easy and inexpensive to replace.

Door Latch

The door latch can become loose or misalinged. Check both the striker and the latch. To adjust the latch you will need to remove the front panel and adjust the switch until properly aligned.

Door Hinges

They can cause problems, but this usually only happens from opening a heavy load of dishes on the door. Occassionaly a broken spring or cable occurs. You will need to remove the toe kick and maybe the front panel to inspect

God bless you

The inlet drain light and rinse aid light have both come on and the dishwasher is humming but not working. Any suggestions?

Hello Mark,
You didnt say so but i think it is a Miele dishwasher, its the only brand i know of with a Intake drain light
A fairly common occurence with Miele dishwashers is the seal on the pump/motor assambly swells up freezeing the motor.Miele makes tool to free it up very easily,if it doesnt reoccur the seal just swelled and it will be ok once freed up.If it does reoccur the seal needs to be replaced. Any Miele authorized service company will have this tool and could free the motor up within 5 minutes and only a couple uses will tell if it will swell again and need to be replaced, if you contact via their website, they may send you that tool. To use it remove lower rack and pump filter and insert into the side of the pump hole(you will be able to see that hole with the filter removed) and rotate it back and forth at first it will resist then should quickly break free,if it is had to turn the pump/motor seal kit would need to be replaced.

Piece of glass dropped through the filter housing when cleaning. Now there is a sound like the motor is jammed.

Hi ghedinger,

Seems something is stuck on your drain motor, now to thoroughly clean the unit and part, do the following:

- Remove as much residual water as possible from the sump and drain hose.
- Open the door.
- Remove the bottom basket.
- Remove the bottom spray arm.
- Unscrew the bottom spray arm flange.
- Remove the filter combination.
- Lay the dishwasher on its back.

Now you will see the Drain pump, like so:

jedemeyer1_10.jpg
Now you need to remove the drain pump from the housing to clean it thoroughly:

- Disconnect the pump plug connections.
- Open the safety retainer clip with a screwdriver
- Turn the pump clockwise and pull it from its holder

Now clean the impeller area, and then re-fit everything (Remember: When refitting, apply a little water or soap solution to the pump seal as a slip lubricant.) Then Test

Hope this helps :-)

Miele dishwasher finishes the cycle with water in the bottom and the dishes not clean

In the bottom of the dishwasher you have a filter. under the filter is a non return valve. it is a one way valve that keeps the dirty drain water from draining back into the dishwasher. if it is dirty or broken, the dirty water that your machine drains out, is running right back in as soon as the drain pump shuts off. this will keep happening and your dishwasher will just spray the dirty water back on the dishes over and over again.

to get to it, you will need to get the water out of the machine. if you have a wet dry shop vac use that. if not, you can bail it out with a cup, and soak the rest up with a sponge. remove the lower spray arm by pulling it up. remove the filter by pulling the handle in the direction of the arrow. lift the filter out of the way. get the rest of the water out of the sump. on the left side of the sump, you will see a silver wire bail holding the non return valve in. flip the bail towards the center of the sump. pull up and out on the non return valve. it has a rubber seal and a stainless steel ball inside. any debris between the seal and the ball will keep the valve from closing all the way, and allow the water to drain back. you can order a replacement if needed, directly from miele. 1800 842 7231.

Miele G841 Built in. Intake/Drain light on/flashing and the dishwasher just shuts down.

I had a similar problem with a different Miele. I found that under the door, there is a removable trim panel (may not be one on yours). Under the trim panel was an acoustically sealed metal plate held by a couple of screws. i switched off and disconnected the electrity, then removed the plate. The bottom tray was filled with a big puddle. I cleaned that up and put the machine back together and it ran fine. Accordingly, I'm getting some replacement shaft seals for the thing as it looks like its worth fixing. Good luck with yours. rupertvdP

Miele G858 Icognito replace bottom door seal...how to remove door

Kelly --

Since you wrote your question 13 months ago, I'm guessing the problem is solved. Still, for others experiencing the same issue, here's my answer.

We also experienced leaking on our Miele 858 Incognito dishwasher and were able to replace the bottom door seal (today) without removing the door.

First, call the Miele Parts Dept @ 800-999-1360 to place an order for the door seal, which is part #3920725.

Remove the defective seal by loosening the four screws at the bottom of the door. Pull the black rubber seal out and discard. Install the new part in the same spot (underneath the green flange). Tighten the screws and you'll be in business.
