Sandisk micro 4.0 gb cruzer wil not work on my laptop My cruzer 4gb works fine in my laptop, but does not on my desk top.  It does not appear in 'my computer'.  It does in the laptop as a removeable drive.  The cruzer icon does not appear.  I have downloaded the reg cure and fixed all found errors.  What do I do to get this thing to work on the dezk top?  Jjmp

I followed your instructions and found no  yellow exclamtion points next to any item in the USB serial buss controllers.

You should know that as soon as I plug the cruzer into the desk top everything slows down to an impossibly slow speed.  I decided to just let it go on trying to do whatever it was trying to do and about a half hour of waiting I got a notice saying it could not open ... error code 1010.

What is my next step?  This thing is useless unless it works in my desk top, because I use it to transfer fie=les from the desktop to the laptop and vice versa.  jjmp5123

re: your message of April 19:

    • I have installed no new hardware or software since purchasing the sandisk cruzer.

    • I do use a USB AT&T air card to access the internet.  I disconnected that and tried the cruzer again to no avail.

    • I followed steps 1 & 2 per your instructions ... restarted the computer ... replugged the cruzer ... still no success.

I think I should just get an ordinary flash drive like have been using for years (without all the fancy programs on it).  This one which is supposed to make life easier is only an excersize in frustration.

No ... it never worked on the desk top.

Yes  ... I have another flash drive that I have used to transfer files.  It still works as does my small passport external hard drive.  The only reason I bought the cruzer is because the case on my first flash drive broke.  I just wish I could figure out why the cruzer works on my laptop but not on the desktop.  jjmp5123

I just solved my own problem.  I figure the only reason it would not work on my desk top but would on the laptop would be due to a conflict with some program on my desk top.  I used my laptop to uninstall all the U3 nonsense on the cruzer making it a storage only device.  This is all I needed it for anyway.  It is now working fine as a storage/transfer device.

Even though you didn't solve the problem, I do appreciate time and effort you put in and I feel you would have found the problem eventually so I am clicking the 'accept solution' button.  jjmp5123

Hello Jjmp5123,
Connect the Pen drive to your desktop computer then Right click on "My computer" icon and go to the properties --> Click on Hardware Tab --> Click on Device Manager button
Under device manager, expand the "USB Serial Bus Controllers" by clicking on the "+" sign
Do you see any Yellow colored exclamation? If you do then right click on the entry with yellow exclamation and select the option to "Uninstall"
Now, remove the drive and reconnect it.. The computer should detect the drive this time.

Let me know if that works.

Thanks and Regards,
Srinivas

Did you install any software or hardware after which the disk stopped working? for eaxmple .. softwares like NoteBurn to convert
purchased music into MP3s or any virtual device softwares etc?

If you did then this is what you need to do ... Open Device Manager and disable the virtual
device it created. After this open Computer Management and go to Disk
Management and change the drive to
letter G. Reboot the computer and then try again

Let me know if that works.

    Regards,

    Also,
Do you use any USB ADSL modem or similar devices? Disconnect other USB devices (except Keyboard and mice) and try again.
    Try doing the following steps:

    Step I. backup registry

    -------------------------------------

    1. Click Start->Run, type "regedit.exe" in the Open box, and click OK.

    2. In Registry Editor, click File->Export.

    3. Specify a name in the File Name box, making sure that "All" is selected in the Export range box, and then click Save.

***(Probably not a bad idea to create a RESTORE point in XP also just to be safe)

    Step II. Delete some keys

    -------------------------------------

    1. Click Start->Run, type "regedit.exe" in the Open box, and click OK.

    2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Setup"

    3. If there is any key or values named "FactoryPreInstallInProgress", please right click and delete it.

    4. Repeat the above steps to delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Factory

    5. Restart the computer.

Upon restart the PC would run the Hardware Wizard and would prompt for a
restart so it could rebuild the deleted registry keys. After restart it
    try using your drive again.

Let me know if that works.

    Thanks and Regards,
    Srinivas

If it ever worked on your desktop then try to restore your system back to hat date.
I can be done on XP by .. start --> all programs --> Accessories --> System tools --> System restore.

Select the restore point available from the calender and follow the on-screen instructions.

However if it never worked on your desktop then just try to see if any other pen drive works on your desktop .. if it does then the issue is related to specifically "This Cruzer drive" or else its a problem with desktop itself .. so we can move ahead accordingly.

    Regards,
    Srinivas

    Dear Jjmp,
Thank you and it was my pleasure assisting you however you yourself solved the issue so all the credit goes to you :)
One more thing I would like to bring to your notice is that by accepting that the issue is resolved in here that would charge you and credit few dollars to my account but as the issue was solved by you yourself .. you might want to revert it back. Thank you for our rating though :)

    Best Regards,
    Srinivas

The icon is not showing up on the desk top

If the Cruzer icon doesn't appear, you may have the U3 autorun diabled. In explorer, browse to the system drive or the data drive (it should be the next drive letter) and double click the LaunchU3 icon.

The autorun can be turned on in the U3 Launchpad Settings on the Launchpad menu.

Hope that helps...
