If you are talking about a Walkman MP3 player. Try checking if your headset/ear bud plug is locked in.

Sony walkman NZ-E353 was working fine both alone and attached too a docking station. Next day it won't come on and keeps flashing "HOLD" before turing off.Battery is fully charged. Please...

I'm sorry that the Walkman Player is not turning ON normally and displaying "HOLD" message. The "HOLD" message indicates that the Walkman player is set to HOLD mode by sliding the HOLD button on the right side. Please make sure that the HOLD switch is not activated.

If the issue persists after moving it from HOLD position, please reset the Walkman player by pressing the reset button using a sharp pointed object. The reset button is located on the rear of the unit.

Thanks for understanding. Please let me know if you require any clarification.

Then, use the control Jog to select Advanced Menu and press > VOL to confirm.

The screen has gone blank!!

Charge the Walkman fully. To charge the battery of the Walkman fully keep it plugged in to the Computer for 4 hours.

Reset the Walkman by pressing the RESET button that is located at the bottom.

You can use any sharp pointed object to press the reset button.

If the issue persists then Walkman may require service.

Sony walkman won't turn off

That's what all Walkmans do. They only seem to go into standby when they say power off. Batteries drain anyway, but maybe it is being switched back on accidentally, so you need to turn the hold switch on. Even then, it is not properly switched off, it just stops things happening like music starting to play. I find this very annoying too.

Format the Walkman then re-transfer musics to the player. Always ensure that the Walkman shouldn't be disconnected while transferring music.

Follow the steps given below to format the player:

Press and hold the Home button in stop mode until the Home screen appears.
Press the |<</>>| button to select the Menu and press the start/stop button to confirm.
Press the |<</>>| button to select "Advanced Menu" and press the start/stop button to confirm.
Press the |<</>>| button to select "Initialize" and press the start/stop button to confirm.
Press the |<</>>| button to select "Format" and press the start/stop button to confirm.
Press the |<</>>| button to select "OK" and press the start/stop button to confirm.
"Formatting..." appears and formatting starts. When formatting is complete, "COMPLETE" appears.

If the issue persists then service will be required.

Shaking problem

Well, to change the song you must hold in the "walkman" symbol key and then shake.
IMHO, I would say that pressing the "next" button is much easier!
I think you have to hold the walkman button in is so that if you are running/jogging/jumping about, you wouldn't be listening to all sorts of songs!
