Question about Washing Machines

4 Answers

I have a Kenmore Elite Top Loader washer. The knob to set the wash cycle now spins freely. I am not sure how to get the knob assembly off to troubleshoot. The other 4 knobs that control water level, water temp, rinse options, and speeds all pop off the unit. I can partially pop-out the whole knob assembly and gingerly move the setting but I don't want to strip it or damage it further. How do I fix the control knob to set the wash cycle?

It is a Kenmore Elite top loader and the part number I could find is 8526060.

Sorrry - I didn't see your next response with the website I looked at the parts on the website and the dial/knob assembly looks just like part #897909. Normally you push the knob in to engage and spin the dial to the desired wash cycle, then pull out the knob to start the water fill. When I push the knob in, the it doesn't engage but just spins freely. I need to find a release of some sort to remove the knob and/or dial assembly to see why it isn't engaging - perhaps a tooth or something that it engages on came off. Can you tell me how to release the knob or dial assembly to pull it off and inspect it?

I have no idea what this solution is for but it is not for the problem I am having with the water cycle dial. I am not sure if my comments being posted to the first response are being read or lost and passed on to another expert but I am not getting answers to the questions I am asking. I got a response to my first posting with a website to find parts but then I asked a follow up question and got a response to a completely unrelated problem.

OK - that makes more sense than the other comments received. I cannot find a small screw or allen key on the side of the dial so will have to see if I can go in through the back and secure it.

That knob should come off the same way as the others.... if the knob is spinning without moving the control.... look on the side of it for a small hole... it is likely held with a small allan key type screw. if it is the control itself that moves... you either will have to remove the back cover to gain access to the control to secure it... or if you have the knob partially off.... look between the knob and the control to see if there is a nut you can turn to tighten it

Gain access to the control panel area and then locate the control that has a rubber tube attached to it. Remove it from the control and then blow into it with about 10 inches of water in the tub. You should hear bubbles gurgling inside the tub. Now, **** in and blow out...trying to clear this tube. Once done, drain all the water by turning it to the spin cycle and if there is a reset on the water level control, turn this to the reset and then to the smallest water level setting. Start with a fill cycle and let it run until is begins to agitate. If it fills near the top, shut it off since it is set to the lowest setting. Drain the water from the unit again and then get the model number and reply to me with the results of what you have done.

This seems no issue with the knob, you have replace the switch assembly that is behind the knob.
you have take the control panel off and check for the part no# on the back of the assembly and replace it ..
    That should fix your issue.

My Kenmore Elite Oasis washer unbalanced signal seems to be very sensitive. Only after several tries of readjusting the load to get it really even that the washer will spin without stopping. I made sure...

If the washer throws an UL error code with out any clothes in the washer then the issue must be concerned with the mechanical alignment inside the machine or a bad CCU.

The most common problem which can cause this is some sort of mechanical hinderance which does not allow the basket to move freely.

The suspension system which holds the basket in its place might be faulty and causing the unbalancing. In this model i think there are plastic ring at the bottom of the basket . Even if they are worn out or moved out of position it may cause the UL error code you are facing

Clothes still wet after cycle is over

Be sure drain hose is not kinked and no higher than the top of washer to drain pipe. Remove clothes as soon as it stops spinning

My kenmore elite top loader has a loud banging noise when spinning

Disconnect power to the washer then tape the lid closed. Lay the washer carefully on its front panel on a padded surface then check the four suspension spring/rod assembly. Make sure the suspension doors are properly attached to the outer tub to prevent an off balance situation that may lead to the banging of the basket to the outer tub during the spin cycle. Also ensure the machine is balanced and properly or evenly seated on the floor.

Machine will not switch to drain and spin cycle

If you take the front off in the lower right you will find a pump motor that controls the drain flow. This may defective. Use a shop vac to empty the water in washer if needs be. But remove and test this pump.

Agitator not working 90 series model # 11026912691

Hello aksward,
Welcome to Fixya.

Here are some suggestions for any Kenmore washers

Let me know how it goes. I'm still thinking and searching my repair manuals!
Please remember to leave a rating!

Washer stops, won't fill, rinse or agitate

• Check the following:
Is the power cord plugged into a grounded 3 prong outlet?
Is the indicator on the Cycle Control knob properly lined up
with a cycle? Turn the Cycle Control knob to the right slightly
and pull to start.
Are the water inlet valve screens clogged?
Are both the hot and cold water faucets turned on?
Is the water inlet hose kinked?

• Does the water level seem too low, or does the washer
appear to not fill completely? The top of the agitator is
much higher than the highest water level. This is normal and
necessary for clothes to move freely.
• Has a fuse blown or is the circuit breaker open? If problem
continues, call an electrician.
• Are you using an extension cord? Do not use an extension
• Is the washer in a normal pause in the cycle? The washer
pauses for about 2 minutes during certain cycles. Allow the
cycle to continue. Some cycles feature periods of agitation
and soak.
• Is the washer overloaded? Wash smaller loads.
• Is the lid open? The lid must be closed during operation.
Washer will not agitate or spin with the lid open.
