Re: plasma tv blues

Sorry to here your problems Pat. But just remember life may not be what we want it, but there is always someone over head looking at us! I guess I'm saying it always could be worse, We could have been in New York on Sep.11 in one of the trade buildings. But enough of that. Hope I can help. Now you say Pioneer but no Model number. Well black screen don't always mean power supply. It sounds like a lamp or engine or even Horizontal or Vertical area. Just need to get model straight first. A pop don't sound good but may not be all you think. For as 4Closure, tell me about it. I'm out of a job too and my ex- is a Home Loan Processor in Detroit.

My HDTV went out in a lightening storm. What could it be?

Is your TV plugged into a surge protector? If not it very well may have gotten a power surge during the lightening storm that fried components in the TV.
Or is the TV connected to a cable box? It could be that the cable box took the hit if it's not plugged into a surge protector.
Or a possibility of both.

Factory reset

Most surge protectors are not of much value. Adding 1 and 1 I get that you should take your set to a repair shop.

My Pioneer Plasma PDP-503PU HD went out. It made a broken glass sound

Dear bob_bitt,
I am very sorry to say this but, looks like your TV is dead for ever.
Plasma TV's have a glass tube inside them that fires the pictures onto the screen. The tube in your TV must have reached its EoL (End of Life) and hence, would have shattered.(That should explain the shattering glass)
Before you throw out your TV though, try to get it checked by a professional technician. But if you bought your TV around 10 years ago,you will be better off buying a new TV.

While watching tv, hawed a loud pop and picture went black, still have sound

Almost certainly bad news, I'm afraid.
Still in guarantee period from when you bought the set?
If not, you'll have to get a repairers quote and see how you feel about that.

TV LG Model 50PX1D-UC Flat Panel Television Loud Popping Noise. TV goes out. I turned on my tv the other morning and it let out a loud popping noise and the picture went out. Any suggestions...

The problem is that there is a bad capacitor inside the unit, it is either on the main panel or the power panel. The popping sound you got was due to the fact that the lead on the capacitor was bridging, therefore causing some electrical popping sound.

Run a check on the main panel and the power panel for any bad capacitor and replace it with a new one. That way, your television will be in good condition once again.

Take care and good luck

My LG 50' plasma tv popped like a firecracker no longer works

You have experienced a plasma eruption. The fix for this may easily surpass the value of the unit - sorry to hear that.

Vizio 50" Plasma VP50

Hello SuziCanevaro,

This may have been the sound of electrolytic capacitors exploding. I would not suggest plugging the set back in until you can have it checked by a qualified TV technician. If you are skilled in Electronics and would like to work on this yourself, you will need:

The schematic diagram, a multimeter, a signal generator, an oscilloscope, and an isolation transformer.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

Problem with Pioneer Plasma

Pioneer has a power supply recall on some models. Do a search and you will find a number at Pioneer and they will replace your power supply for free. The loud popping noise and then nothing is a common problem with these. Hope this helps!
