Subs stoped I have two boston competotor 1200 subs hooked up to a rockfordfosgate 1000 watt amp. im pushing 500 to each sub. They were doing fine for about 2 days then suddenly quit. i cant find the problem. ive test lighted every thing back all the way to the subs, and the subs are getting juice. i refuse to believe i have blown or burnt them up due to the quality of the subs...so?

    Believe it!

Those subwoofers are rated @300W RMS

Playing them for 3 days at 500W+ will take them out in a heartbeat (especially if you are playing them in a sealed enclosure).

To test the subs, remove the wiring, and put a DMM on them and check for 4ohm (or very close) load.

You'll probably need to check that a wire hasnt become disconnected anyway.

    What amplifier are you using?

So...disconnect the spkr wires and put a known good AA battery across.

  • If the spkr pops, it's likely OK...if not, spkr is defective/toast. Best if you have VMeter - check for 2 to 8 ohms resistance.
  • You have used a test light to check powers - that includes the 'trigger' control from deck. Does the 'on' light on the amp come on?
  • High wattage means high current. Make sure your ground is to a clean unpainted metal surface. Plastic will not do !
  • Mandatory fuse at clean battery post using '0' - '4' gauge power wire, otherwise undercurrent will shut down amp.

Any sub can be blown in 30sec if given bad clipped power, so just measure them with a multimeter and see if the coils still have resistance. Throw away the test light and only use a multimeter.

I have 2 12in kenwoods and a 1200 watt pyrimade amp, how can i hook these up to be the loudest

1st have your subs facing inwards towards the front of the car, not facing out the boot, This creates a better bass.

Wire 1 sub to one channel and the other sub to the other channel.

Turn down your gain as low as possible and then power everything up.

turn volume to desired loudness and then start turning up the gain slowly, if distorts a little turn in back down a notch.

avoid using bass boost, I agree it sounds great but it puts more strain on your amp and shortens its life.

after sorting out your gain, tweak all others until sound is bassy and clear with no distortion.

If you would like to use bass boost, turn on bass boost first, then up your gain etc.

I have two 12' kickers, will a x-plore 1000 watt 4 channel amp work well with it?

It all depends on the wattage of your subs. you need an amp more powerful than the both subs combined. For example. for 2 500 watt subs, you'll need at least a 1200 watt amp. amps should never be truned up to full power, 80% max as they tend to blow more quickly and overheat when on max. ideally you want an amp over the total combined wattage of your both subs so you dont need your amp on max for the best sound for you subs.

Just bought 2 12 in d3 dual 2 ohm subs with d5 600.4 amp. Need to know how to wire subs. They were in a box already I assumed they were wire at 2 o When i hooked One up to my amp it hit really for Jus...

what wattage are the subs and amp? if your subs are more wattage than your amp, your amp will blow fuses as cant handle the output to your subs. for example. you have 2 500 watt subs and a 300 watt amp, that is no good as amp isnt powerful enough. if you have 2 500 watt subs you need at least a 1200 watt amp to power them both. 200 watt more than the combined wattage of subs as amps should never be turned up to max as they tend to blow and overheat more quickly. 80% volume on amps is reccomended by installers and manufactures.

Can i run just 2 subs on this 1200 watt kenwood 5-4-3 and if so what way will i get the most power, i mean do i bridge it or pute the speaker wires in other ports

you can run 2 subs given that you dont go over 2 ohms of resistance and that the subs are rated at 1000 watt max each around 4 or 500 watt rms. if your not sure about ohms dont bridge it and get single voice coil subs. this amp is capable of about 700watts constant power 1200 max spike if the voltage stays at 12 or higher.

550x2 subs....SPL z2x-820 Amp

Hello,

The 230 watt amp is a little small for your subs. They'll work, but if you are looking for max SPL, you won't get it. To push those Audiobahn's to their potential pavement shaking max, I would recommend an amp in the range of 500-600 rms (2-channel bridged) or 1000 watts rms monoblock.

Hope this helps.

Is it enough to power to 12 volge=ahagen 12oowatss dual 4 ohms

your Volfenhag 12" subs are rated at 1200 watts they are only 600 watts rms and the Rockford punch p4004 is only 200 watts rms so the answer is yes it will work but if you get a amplifier that pushes out 500 - 600 watts rms you will love the sound from subs
there is nothing wrong with the Rockford amp it just wont pound out the bass as hard but the good news is you will never blow the subs with it
when buying amps or subs make sure to look at rms rating that is the true power they actually have ie. (sub box says 1200 watt you think powerful but if you divide it in 1/2 you actually get 600 watts rms) don't get me wrong that's a nice rating. for a sub but you will want to match that number with the amps rms rating or lower. The RMS is what makes the car pound the higher the RMS the better
hope this helps

High distortion

The head unit may be rated at 200 watts but it cannot produce more than ~20 watts of real power per channel. There's no way that it can drive the high end speakers to a level that will be needed to compete with the subs on a 1000 watt amplifier.
