Question about Computers & Internet

Installing WinXP or Win2K on 20 GB HDD and Mouse does not select text.

While having a HDD 3Gb it was running WinXp with 98MB memory. When the HDD was replaced with 20 GB IDE Type 65 HDD it is not possible to install any OS other than Win 98SE. If tried, the installation goes upto reboot and an error message comes up - NTLDR missing. Standard solutions like partitioning with a Software, copying Sys.com to c:/ and reinstalling, installing Win2K directly and as an upgrade, and similarly /Win XP does not change the situation. Currently I am running Win98SE making two partitions of 9529MB (FAT32). Any help in installing Win 2K or WinXP on drive C: without having to loose data on D: is most welcome. 2. All of a sudden the Mouse pad which was working like a right handed mouse hitherto stopped selecting and moving text in any screen or page after installing updates to Word 2000. I am forced to use it now as a left handed mouse. Any solution to turn this into the old right handed mouse?

Yes 98MB is the memory. I will try formatting C drive and revert, if need be.

Format the C drive as NTFS and leave the D Drive in tact whilst going through the windows xp setup process.

10gb partition should be plenty of space although 98mb ( are you reffering to the amount of memory ) if so then that may be the issue and if possible I would upgrade that.

Can't install WINxp

try installing from another copy. It sounds like the file is corrupt. Get a CD from someone, but use your own product key (this is not illegal, as you are using the product key you bought) Try installing it. It ought to work now!

I go Why can't I install Windows XP on my S-ATA HDD by SiS964? A: You have to copy the driver paired with the motherboard package into a floppy disc before you installing WinXP or Windows 2000 on your system, and follow the notice showed on the screen to insert the floopy disc. The system will grab the needed driver from the disc to finish the installation of S-ATA HDD automatically.

Because SiS964 was announced before than Windows XP and WinXP therefore it can't recognize it. If you want to install a whole new WinXP (or Windows 2000) on S-ATA HDD by SiS964, you need to copy the necessary driver from the directory named floopy image on your driver CD to one floopy disc. When you begin to install OS, follows the instruction to put your disc into floopy drive. After this, you will keep on installing your WinXP smoothly. If you use P-ATA HDD, you don't need to do like this.

t this off the sis.com web site what does it all mean.

32 GB hard drive limitation

WinXP & Win2k cannot create FAT32 partitions larger than 32 GB.IF you want to use partitions larger than 32GB in WinXp then you will need to install a third party partition tool like Partition magic. Partition magic is probably the best coz i have formatted my 200GB HDD in 2 mins flat!
