Question about Linksys WUSB54GC 802.11g/b Wireless Adapter

1 Answer

Can't connect to the network

We just bought a new computer to add to our existing network to replace one that died. We are using a Linksys WRT54GS router (i think) and a usb compact wireless G adapter We cannot get it onto the network. My dh has installed the adapter software into the new computer and can get it to find the network but it keeps saying incorrect WEP key but we're entering the same WEP key it gives me when I go to the IP to retrieve the key. How can I get this computer onto the network?

Re: can't connect to the network

Heres what you should do, 1. reset the router from the liitle reset button on the back of router. 2. hook up the laptop wired into the router to set up your network from scratch. 3. write down all admin/wireless settings pertaining to security. 4. after you have all settings set right, reboot the router. 5. reboot all pc's on your LAN/WLAN, and if all planets are in alignment they will all be assigned an address by dhcp and you will be happy. I noticed you said you had an wrt-54gs, if you have version 1, 2, 3, or 4 then you might be interested in turning that router into a super router. check out this link - wiki here - this is firmware that is like steroids for your router. Hope this helps.

I have a Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter and a Cisco/Linksys WRT54GS Router. The signal is extremely poor even though the router is only 10 feet away. It does not appear to be an interference issue.

You can update the Linksys Firmware to a newer version if is available, please check the Linksys support site
Another chance is to change the Wireless Channel maybe 11, to avoid any intereference with wireless phones.

I bought a new hp desk top with explorer vista. I am trying to get a wireless connection form my existing linksys wireless G 2.4 and have not been successful installing the driver. so I have not been able...

Explore the CD and check if it has drivers for Windows Vista. If none, check their website and look for any available drivers or see if it is already compatible with Windows Vista.

Signal strenth

Ok, since im figuring these are fairly new products, you should call Linksys, concidering you are still under warranty. If I were to make a guess, maybe you needed to forward or open a port on the router to allow signal to flow between the two.
