Question about Linksys WUSB54GC 802.11g/b Wireless Adapter

1 Answer

Can't connect to the network

We just bought a new computer to add to our existing network to replace one that died. We are using a Linksys WRT54GS router (i think) and a usb compact wireless G adapter We cannot get it onto the network. My dh has installed the adapter software into the new computer and can get it to find the network but it keeps saying incorrect WEP key but we're entering the same WEP key it gives me when I go to the IP 192.168.1.1 to retrieve the key. How can I get this computer onto the network?

Heres what you should do, 1. reset the router from the liitle reset button on the back of router. 2. hook up the laptop wired into the router to set up your network from scratch. 3. write down all admin/wireless settings pertaining to security. 4. after you have all settings set right, reboot the router. 5. reboot all pc's on your LAN/WLAN, and if all planets are in alignment they will all be assigned an address by dhcp and you will be happy. I noticed you said you had an wrt-54gs, if you have version 1, 2, 3, or 4 then you might be interested in turning that router into a super router. check out this link http://www.dd-wrt.com - wiki here - http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php?title=DD-WRT_Docu_(EN) this is firmware that is like steroids for your router. Hope this helps.

Download installation cd linksys wrt54gs

You could install the Linksys WRT54GS without any CD.

You could use the Linksys EasyLink Advisor to scan your network for the Linksys WRT54GS.

The Default IP-address is 192.168.1.1 so you should be able to connect to the Linksys with your Webbrowser when you do a factory reset of the Linksys.

I have an existing wireless network (Linksys WRT54GS Router). Trying to add a "Net Pal". Net Pal sees the W/L network, but will not connect. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Ron

Hi, do you have security set up on your router? WEP, WPA, WPA2, or MAC address filtering? Any of those will cause your NetPal to not be able to connect unless it has the security key, or in the case of MAC filtering, unless you add it to the allowed list.

Reset the router to default....the default username and password is usually on the bottom of the router..then open a web page on your pc and connect the router with a network cable..type 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1
Use the generic name and password to logon....once logged in, configure username and password and wifi...once setup..save and exit..disconnect and connect router to internet modem...log onto pc and look for your wifi neteork name..cheers

You should have no problems. Wireless is a protocol onto itself which is not OS specific. Hence the ability to use game consoles, security cameras and even phones on a wireless network.

Cannot get a second computer on my secure wireless network

Have you set the properties on the second computer to match the security expected by the router? Since one computer works I would compare the settings for the network connection and set the second computer to the same.

Linksysfix.com/ela does not exist??

if you already have a wireless setup the latop (if it has wireless) will pick up the wireless router (if security on the wireless network, just type in the security password). Type 192.168.1.1 into your browser to access the routers configuration page.

Linksys WRT54GS shows that it connects, but doesn't really

How could I possibly be smarter than the Linksys tech?

Do your computers have fixed IP addresses or obtain DHCP from the main router? You need to know this because you also need to let one or the other serve DHCP. If it were my system, I'd let the main router serve and the access points just exist.

For that to happen, you need to pick a fixed IP address outside of the IP addresses that can be assigned by your equipment, or pick one that is unused by your network devices.

Unplug the WAN cord from the Linksys and set your computer to 192.168.0.5 or 1.5, depending on what the Linksys does by default. Log into the Linksys and make it use a fixed IP address on the WAN side to whatever you need. Now, as I said above, I'd trun OFF LAN DHCP so it gets DHCP from your network router.

Now reset your laptop to use DHCP, power down the Linksys and plug it into the netrwork and power it up. From any computer on your network, you should be able to go to the router's fixed IP address and be looking at the login screen. Log in, change your password, and you should be up and running :-)

Note that there are a TON of variations on this theme, so don't despair if it fails to work. The key is knowing what your network requires.

Cannot maintain wireless connection

Try manually add the network. If the problems continue, I would turn the laptop in for repair/replacement (if it under warranty).

Wireless - G router

If the Linksys is not yet configured use the desktop to put the CD in and follow instructions to add the Linksys Router to your existing network setup.

Once inside there are a few more steps to getting a desktop PC to see & network with a laptop PC within a router/wireless environment. Once the Linksys is setup you may want to repost something to get the computers talking to each other.

Take care...
