There is a way to locate leaks that are under water using a red dye that should be available at any pool supply store. It should come with directions, but basically you put the dye in the water and it will flow twards the leak and then you know where the crack/hole/leak is located.

How many gallons does a 15' round pool 35 deep have

Basic school maths Pi R Squared, but are you sure this pool is 35 FEET deep?

Pi, (3.142) x radius squared
the radius is half the diameter x itself, x depth. and then

There are 7.48 gallons in cubic foot

Your pool diameter is 15' diameter, so 7.5 radius. 7.5 x 7.5 is 56.25. Multiply that by the depth. Multiply that answer by 7.48 gallons

How many cubic feet of soil do i need to fill a hole 18 inches in diameter by 18 inches deep

Using formula V = Pi r 2 h, I'd say about 93 cubic feet. This is using 3.14 for Pi.

Pool Sand Filter

The volume of a 24x4 pool is 1809.6 cubic feet [Volume=pi x radius squared x height, or V=3.14159 x(12x12)x4], and the 18 foot pool is 1017.9 cubic feet [V=3.14159 x (9x9)x4]. When you multiply the number of cubic feet by the conversion factor of 7.48 gallons per cubic foot, you come out with 13,536 gallons versus 7614 gallons. Since the volume is nearly double, I don't think the other filter will cut it for very long. Is the top that is cracked in the valve body or the top part of the tank? It might be cheaper and easier to just replace the defective part in the long run than to use an undersized filter that will die prematurely.
