Sounds like you need the backlight in your display panel replaced. Unless you know how to replace it yourself. You will need to take it into a repair shop. Quick check.. if you have a monitor plug it into the back of your laptop. Hit the fn + display key.. one the (f)function keys you will see a symbol resembling a monitor. If the display is good on the monitor. It's most definitely your backlight. Now in some cases the inverter may go bad so both have to be chacked. About the cost the backlight are not that expensive from $20 & up. The inverter is a little more between 38-70 bucks. Prices vary. But the replacement of either may be costly. Check around a few local shop and ask what the cost would be to replace the backlight and or the inverter for your model #. They will probably want to diagnose themselves to be sure that is the problem. Some shops give free diagnostics..then some do not. Also askif they determine it's definitely the backlight is youronly problem you can ask if you purchase the part(s) how much would they charge to put it in. I have an LG 50LN5600-UI. The left half of my screen is now darker than the right any idea what the problem maybe?

It could be that the lamp is burned out on that side. Close up-, Shine a flashlight into it and if you see an image form it's simply the lamp. If not, then it could be a processor issue or something more complicated.

Lg flatron e2441 half screen darker

If you get half of the screen darker, remember that LCd monitor have 2 neon lamp at each extremity of the LCD, when one goes out you get this problem. it is possible to replace the LCD neon lamp, I did it many time, but you need to tear all the monitor appart and be carefull not to break any glass while doing so.

You can try adjusting the screen contrast by pressing [2nd] and using the up and down arrows. Up will make it darker and down will make it lighter/more faded.

A665-s6057 screen compatabilty issue

If you can see the image on the screen with a flashlight then it's a problem with the inverter.

Our texas instruments TI84 calculator won't turn on. We've changed the batteries with new ones but it still won't turn on. Any suggestions?

It is possible that it is turned ON but you cannot see what is on the display because the screen is too dim. That often happens after you change batteries.
To make the screen darker
  1. Press the [2nd] key and release it.
  2. Press the [UpArrow] key and HOLD it pressed until the screen darkens to your liking.

Dull laptop screen back light

You may have a faulty CCFL lamp. A faulty CCFL lamp may have the following symptom: Screen flashes on and off or displays reddish pink hue. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering and/or with dim display or appear black. Picture flickers on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replace the CCFL lamp.
To determine if the video card or the LCD is faulty, connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight or a faulty inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp. Usually the CCFL lamp fails before the inverter.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Sumsung 930b goes dim,and flickers after about 3 min.

This sounds like the inverter has gone bad. If the bulb were bad only, you would see a faint image on the screen with a flashlight.

The problem is on this monitor, it will probably cost about $100 or so to take it to a shop to get it fixed, and that is nearing the cost of a new monitor.

If you are a little bit handy, and can disassemble the monitor, you can replace the inverter. The hardest thing about this, is getting the monitor faceplate open. Just use something firm and softer, such as a nylon spudger (this is something you can find online) or you can carefully use a thin scredriver. You just have to be careful, those cases are really tight.

Here is a good guide for general ideas on how it is done.

Video problem

Generally this type of problem is the video card, however, it's extremely rare, but sometimes a screen malfunction will override the video out causing the appearance of a bad card. To check this, disconnect the screen, and try the external monitor. If the external works properly, then it's the screen.

Screen extremely dim

I think you should look at the sleep button on pin. When you close LCD it should push that pin down(Stanby or sleep pin).
When you press or it get stuck, this pin will block or not send voltage to inverter so that the light on monitor should go off or computer go to standy or sleep mode.Check this one.
best of luck,takecare
