Question about HP ScanJet 2200C Color USB Scanner
After a long and perfect service my hp scanjet 2200c stopped working. When I click the icon the scanner lamp goes on, a click is heard and that is all. Often a window opens saying that the scanner is being accessed by another application which I am required to exit before continuing. Have no idea how to do this. Very seldom, after an hour or two, the scanner window comes up and the scanner performs a scan.
My HP500 laptop runs on Windows XP. Other than this it works perfectly. I have the scanner installation CD.
Many thanks for your time and help. Sincerely, Ephraim
From what you are describing the scanners drive motor is defective, the light comes on and it tries to scan but the light doesn't move across the scanner bed, correct? if so u can have it repaired or better yet replace it, scanners are cheap, but contact HP support for more info on ordering the drive motor.
Also go to this link for trouble shooting help from HP at there support site.

Scanner board needs replacement its at it last stage.so its taking time to to reset and its showing error.the cost of the scanner board is $14 plus service charge.this error shows up when board gets over heated and the scanner cannot poerform.as you mentioned the message that itself says ------accessed by another application -------- that means.when you on the scanner it readjusts it gears and assembly.but it your case its moving lamp is coming up but the assembly is not adjusting and so it cannot move further in scanning operation.replace the board to sdolve it.
get the board at local printer repair store.

Reinstall the scanner drivers, after that try using some excellent photo-editing software likes Adobe Photoshop to scan the files. Application provided with the scanner is usually a cheap software and not very good or user friendly. I recommend that you go for some good software. The problem will not be with the scanner.
How To Scan Using Adobe Photoshop
Part I : Setting Up
Part II : Scanning
:: 72 for web or screen use (including PowerPoint slides)
:: 300 for basic 1 to 1 printing
:: 300+ for enlarged prints
It is usually best to make other changes (e.g., brightness, contrast, color balance, etc.) to a scanned image once it has been imported into Photoshop, because Photoshop can perform such alterations in more sophisticated ways than the scanning software.
Because large graphics on a web page can take a long time for a slow modem to load, a considerate web page designer places a small "thumbnail" sized version of an image, which is serves as a link to a much larger version of the image. Create and save first the large version of each image in Photoshop, and then the thumbnail version, each from the scan you just produced.
Part III : Saving the file in Adobe Photoshop
Specify a file format. Recommended file formats:
:: For the web: .jpg for photos, .gif for non-photo images.
Save the file in a desirable
:: For high quality prints (i.e outputting to the printer) - .tiff or .jpg (.tiff's have more info than .jpg's without the excess layer info of a .psd).
:: For layered images - .psd only.
