the bios/cmos battery (usually a button type) is fairly easy to remove and can be done anytime the computer is unplugged from the power (switched off at the wall) however it is recommended that this procedure only be done by trained personnel

NOTE: removing this battery will reset the system date and time

I used jumper bios reset and now gettin bad checksum error. on the mother board writen that K8N rev 1.01 i downloaded k8n motherboard rom file and renamed as k8n.rom and copied to disket. its deleting and...

Hi.

The most probable reason you are getting the bad checksum error is you have to set the date and time because you have cleared the CMOS and reset the BIOS.
You should also get a message that says press F1 to load defaults or press a certain key to access setup. Access setup (BIOS) and set the date and time. That should take care of the bad checksum error.
Another good idea is make sure the motherboard battery is not dead either.

Bios password dell e5510

The BIOS password may be removed by removing the BIOS battery from the notebook for 20 mins. If you cannot wait for this period, then short out the battery contacts for a few secs.
Replace the BIOS battery and go to the BIOS configuration and set the Date & Time etc.
If this procedure does not work then try this WEB site for BIOS passwords :-

I have problem on bios password.i disable the bios password but it asks for the password and when i entered the old one and it doesnt work. acer aspire 4715z

Below is the factory service manual.....it is free to copy, use and print. You will need adobe acrobat reader or fixit read it now to view this file. The BIOS password reset procedure is on pages 39 and 40 of the manual. It involves "shorting" two contacts on the motherboard while powering up the laptop. Read the procedure carefully and you will be fine. If you find this uncomfortable, a local shop should be able to perform the procedure for you.

I need to replace the battery in my computer. I have the manual. Has anyone done this? Can you follow the procedures in the manual or is there a better set of instructions to complete this job?

Here is a step by step tutorial from Dell:

Windows vista has does not response when i install it , and i find the problem that the bios software is out of date so i will work to update the bios but i cant know how can i update the bios can you help...

Hi,
To explain how to update the bios, would be very difficult, as it is a strict method to complete.
And would be a very lengthy conversation.

below is a link to the procedures for you

(WARNNG) you must get it right first time.
Flashing the Bios is not difficult, it must be right.

http://www.wikihow.com/Update-Your-Computer's-BIOS

Take your time, soak up the method's and procedures, practice the procedures in the steps,

Go for the BIOS update, only when you are confident that you have understood all the topics involved.
You will need a working, online Pc system,
so you can download and get the updates.

Hope this helps
Regards.
Richard.

BIOS PROBLEM

I don't think you have a problem with the BIOS version but more likely with the settings.
Please enter in the BIOS and be sure that under: main menu, ide configuration, Parallel ATA IDE controller is set up as Primary. Then you go under advance menu, Serial ATA IDE controller and be sure you don't have RAID.

Copy of the manual can be find here http://dlsvr.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/sock754/k8v_vm_ultra/e2476_k8v-vm_ultra.pdf

Let's start with this checks and then let me know.

1) This is a typical problem when the CMOS battery is very weak or dead, it will continually display the date and time and reboot with the same errors until you change the CMOS battery. On this model it is behind the door that houses the memory chip, above the battery, if you have the laptop turned over and battery closest to you. <--best bet, its a dead CMOS battery.

2) You can get to the BIOS to run tests, one of 2 ways, either hit the ESC key and other keys to get a 301 error or hold the F1 key and boot, you should get into BIOS. (You probably won't be able to do this until you replace the CMOS battery.) From there you can run diagnostic tests on various components.

3) Lastly, you can update the BIOS. From inside the EASY-SETUP bios you should be able to copy the BIOS part number, date, etc. Look for the BIOS update based upon model # either thru a search on the web or directly on the IBM website (a search on google of "bios update thinkpad 380ed" will bring up a link for the IBM page.) If you choose to do a BIOS update, read the directions carefully and remember not to power off the machine while the update is happening. If you've never updated a BIOS before, get someone who has to walk you thru it before attempting it by yourself.

GOOD LUCK :)
