Support line for this product recommends on using 8x speed DVD's for recording. Any other media apparenlty is a **** shoot as to if it will work or not. I'd try using only 8x speed DVD's. There are many, many complaints about this particular unit and given the troubles you are experiencing, if using the 8x DVD's doesn't fix your problem, I'd get another machine and rid yourself of the headaches but not b/4 doing a little research with
a site like:

Best of luck with your problem and hope I've helped! : )

Depending what kind of DVD you are putting into the player, try the opposite. In many devices, DVD-R and/or DVD-RW discs do not work. You must use DVD+R or DVD+RW discs.

OR if it still cannot read the discs.

You will have to contact Phillips regarding this. The problem is with the reading lens in the player. It is obviously dirty or damaged which will create problems in reading the DVD.

E335043e02 is not the error code, but the memory or disk location where the problem occurred.

If the error message is related to a memory exception, then you can often solve the problem by doing a firmware upgrade.

If the memory is related to disk reading try a lens cleaner disk.

Solution:

Contact Philips by phone to see if they have a firmware upgrade available for this model. If a download is available you will have to burn a CD using a computer, and to run the upgrade CD on your DVD.

Record errors

If your dvd player only supports dvd+r discs then that is the only way it will record. It will only record once onto the dvd-rw and, since it doesn't support the re-writables, it won't be able to use this function. This is the most likely reason for the first error. The second problem is a little confusing. Is it when you are trying to record on dvd-rs or dvd-rws that it says it can't record? I hope this post was helpful (for the first error, anyway). Good luck! I hope everything works out! Sincerely, Der Strom

Recording Error "Can not record on this disk/E4 54037380

I had that exact same problem. I would record a bunch of dvds with no problems for months and then some and one day it doesn't work. Only this showed up E4 EA03738B. However I've found the solution. Instead of going out and returning the recorder or buying new dvds just purchase a Laser Lense Cleaner. It's a dvd cleaner. Works like a charm.

Error code E 4 54040990

You need to go into the set up menu and select recording options. On the recording options menu, scroll down to dubbing options. On the dubbing options menu select either VCR to DVD or DVD to VCR.
Recording and Dubbing are not the exactly the same thing. You use the record buttons to record TV directly to VCR/DVD you use the dubbing buttons and set up to record DVD to VCR or VCR to DVD.
Hope this helps.

Programming errors

Several things to check 1) Your time - set it manually and remove the automatic time set 2) Try manually recording even a few min of anything (just put on channel to record, press DVD button and DVD Record button) - does it give you an error message on that disk? If so it might be because you are using 16x and machine sometimes gets messed up and won't record on those speed disks - same with +R sometimes does this - try recording on 8x -R ones. Hopefully this helps - if not try unplugging unit from wallsocket and leave off about 30min then try setting program again etc (plus current local time) and use a new disk and see if problem still occurs - sometimes just unplugging it "resets" everything and then starts working again.

Try using 8x and lower DVDs and -R ones; try cleaning with CD cleaning disk and then try recording a few min again. If that doesn't help try unplugging and waiting about 30min then put in disk that was previously recorded and go to last item and play it to end (if 2hr long skip to last skip and then play until it finishes) - now try just recording a few min using the manual DVD record button and see if error comes up again - usually this unplugging somehow resets everything. Hope this helps ya'll.
