Question about Samsung HLN617W 61" Rear Projection HDTV

Color wheel replacement

Replaced the color wheel and put it back together and the lamp light flashes. The lamp doesn't come on the 3 fans are running. It will try this a coulple of times then all 3 leds will flash. I checked connections and can't find any extra. I was successful in breaking the cover interlock and need to know if the closed position is an open or a short. Thanks

Re: Color wheel replacement

Closed position is short. Check color wheel ribbon connector, contacts face to back of set.

Samsung DLP 72" HL72A650C1F keeps turning off amd on

Did you buy the original lamp?
If the problem is related to the lamp door switch, you will get a different error instead of lamp LED.

Do you hear the color wheel spinning?
Again, if it's a color wheel problem the error will be different!
My good guess is the lamp but, it could be the ballast or both.

Best of luck

With the back off of the set it will shut off. There is a lever it engages to prevent the set being operated with the back off.

The color Wheel will cause a fan like or high pitched grinding noise. I can tell you where to buy it and also there are on the internet places with written and VIDEO instructions for the replacement in most of these sets.

Put the back on and see if the set again works and still has the noise.

Cooling fan is loud . I'm going to replace the lamp in the unit because all 3 lamps are blinking on the front panel. Unit shuts down but I'm wondering if there is a seperate cooling fan in the back of the...

That's probably the Color Wheel you are hearing. When you turn the set on the color wheel has to run, one of the several things that has to happen for the set to come on. The color wheel sends a signal back to the control circuit to tell it it's running. If these sets fail to light the lamp they will shut off and try again, that's why you hear the color wheel start then wind down then start again. The set should try three times before it decides it's not going to be able to turn on.

One way you can tell the difference in the fan sound and color wheel sound is if you can get the set on, let it run for a little while so it gets warm, then when you turn it off the color wheel will start winding down but the fans will continue to run for a minute or two.

Won't turn on

Make sure that you have the orange flat cable turned the right way when you plugged it in. I accidentally turned one the wrong way and that was the response I got. Hope this is all it was if this does not fix it I would measure the ballast and make sure the 200 or so volts is coming across.

Samsung DLP will not turn on

If your having the "3 light" problem it could be an indication of a bad lamp however if there is a buzzing or a grinding sound it could be one of two moving parts. The color wheel or the cooling fan. I would go the cheaper route and replace the color wheel first. The thing is the lamp will not turn on if there is a problem with one of the other two parts. TRUST me ... I've replaced all three parts just to find out it was only the cooling fan. (at least I have another lamp handy when the new one goes out). The motor on the cooling fan is too small for such a big fan so I would definately try it first. It's a big problem with the DLP tvs. Hope this helps.
